Welcome to another book review from me based on a quote from a book. Today's writing will be from the book Daring Greatly by Brené BrownRobert Kiyosaki, and the quote says:
“Vulnerability is the birthplace of innovation, creativity, and change.”
This is another quote from a book where the reader needs to go through the book to understand better what the book is talking about. It is not one of those quotes that is easy to understand just by reading the quote. You will be left wondering, like I was, when I came across the statement: “Vulnerability is the birthplace of innovation, creativity, and change.” Is the writer trying to tell us to be vulnerable to experience true innovation or change? This is really challenging if you ask me. Being vulnerable can be tricky in the sense that what if the weakness from your vulnerability is later used against you in a way you were not expecting, and in a way you definitely will not like.
Brene Brown talks about the concept that, from a young age, we are taught to appear strong in order to mask our weakness. Thereby, taking it to adulthood, it becomes more difficult to show weakness. For one, I can relate to this. There is a society that has been created to showcase asking for help as a form of weakness. This says a lot about certain things that have been said, like take it like a man, do not cry, you are a man, and more statements like you are not the only one. This, in turn, pushes the need to ask for help far away from the problem as the situation gets worse. Thereby leading to suffering in silence and not speaking up when the need arises.
Well, this is where the author comes in. Brene Brown flips the script by stating it is not about being weak but about growth. It is the passage to the change one seeks. There is no success with failure or trial and error in different forms. The vulnerability is about the change and not just the weakness. It is the prerequisite for the innovation one needs. How can you get help when you do not ask for it? Many do not have the liberty to pay close attention, especially when one steps back. If it is not spoken about, how will they come to a solution?
She says when one stops trying to protect themselves from their vulnerability, they start to speak about what truly affects them. When we are less worried about what others think, we can now focus on what we truly think and spot the areas where we might be vulnerable. The author opens my mind to the idea that I should be more open to the vulnerability I try my best to cover, for within it is why I will find change and innovation. Now, when I think about it deeply, I begin to remember instances where I was only able to find change after I had dealt with the uncomfortable. It is more like sitting down within the discomfort to accept your flaws so you can get to where the change will come. It still does not change the fact that it is uncomfortable to ask for help, especially when it makes you vulnerable, yet how will the change you seek come?

I like how honest and thoughtful your take on this is, you questioned the quote instead of just accepting it like that,
You point about suffering in silence Vs asking for help stood out for me,you see that's where I see this thing called "growth"

I'm in love with it, dunno sha, maybe because its something that's very very relatable...I mean, talking of being vulnerable.
And honestly, being vulnerable is not being or showing weakness at times, but the starting point for a life-changing thing. And the society we live in is one that makes us all silent, because once you ask for help or act in need, they see it as something else.
I'm definitely coming back to read through this review again.
