Fountains Abbey & the history lie (3): the spire & the meditating tree

In episode 3 of my day at Fountains Abbey I continue my walk around this epic building and spend some time meditating at the base of the spire.

Not for one moment do I believe this place was built by 13 monks in 1132. It was made by humans who were far more advanced than us a long time before these monks discovered it and claimed it as their own.

The question remains of course.... where did the advanced humans go?
