A tough week in every way

This week has been quite tense for my whole family.

My younger son had two competitions, winning gold in one and bronze in the other. However, he was quite upset because he believed the judges were unfair, and his coach shared the same opinion.
Still, at the easier competition, he easily won the bronze, while at the tougher one, which took place in Kaštela, 65 km from our home, he effortlessly secured the gold medal.

Since my wife and older son couldn’t go, it was just me and my younger son. The competition was relatively close, so he didn’t have to take the organized bus with the team.
Instead, parents were allowed to drive their children, watch the competition, and then take them back home.
That’s exactly what we did.

After the competition, we sat at a café in front of the stadium and had a drink. Of course, he needed something refreshing, so he had an isotonic drink to regain the energy he had lost, as the competition was quite challenging and long, and the sports hall was pretty hot.

Two days later, my nephew had to undergo surgery in a hospital in Šibenik, a city 11 km from my town.
Whenever someone in the family, especially a nephew I see every day, has to go through surgery, it’s hard to handle because every operation carries a certain risk.

Thankfully, yesterday afternoon, he had his surgery, and everything went well.
He hadn’t eaten for two days, and this morning he finally had breakfast. Under normal circumstances, I don’t think he would ever drink unsweetened tea and eat some slightly toasted plain bread, but this time he said he ate everything because he was so hungry.

Even our cat, Loky, seemed to sense that someone was unwell.
It was as if he was in a kind of depression—he didn’t want to go outside for almost two days.
He just lay around the house, mostly on top of the wardrobe, his favorite high spot.

Now, I hope my nephew will be home soon and that in two weeks, he’ll be able to come with me and my older son to watch another karate competition and cheer for his brother and cousin.
