Daily Pet Photography - Amano Shrimp

Here are my Amano shrimp getting a squash snack.

I had some butternut squash leftover in the fridge and decided to see if the shrimp would go for it.

They loved the tiny bit I put in there so much that they started fighting over it.

This big guy stole the biggest chunk and swam off by himself to hoard it. The little guy was lying in wait for a chance to steal a bit.

The big guy gave the little one a glare.

Now the big guy moved even higher up to feast by himself.

I dropped in a few more bits of squash for the rest of the shrimp. They cleaned it up within a few minutes, quite the vicious vegetarians.

Those are amazing shots. I have to ask. Do you raise the shrimp for food or just enjoyment?

Hah these guys are way too small to eat. They are the janetors of the tank. They constantly eat algae and anything on the bottom of the tank with their many arms filtering the sand. I figured they needed a break from fush poop and could use some squash instead lol.

Haha ... one being's poop is another being's smorgasbord.

What an unusual pet!! Lol :)
The first shoot is amazing!!
Is the little guy the son of the big guy...or they are just room mates?

Just brothers from another mother lol. Who know I have four in there maybe one will lay eggs then I'll have a tank full of shrimps.

Yeah I hope so!! Let's populate! ;)

Then maybe I can finally have shrimp scampi for dinner.

How small are they?

Just a bit longer than an inch at full size.

How beautiful those skins are so transparent and fast ... we sit in the shallows by the shore and wet our feet in the sea and here they are one ... second ... third .... and maybe fourth and fifth , clean - pluck old skin - dirt around the wounds of small mosquito stab wounds or dirty eye and undercut nails real cleaners, some move quickly and some remain when you move your foot a little in the water ... beautiful sweet cleaners even though i heard they are great on my plate but i have never caught them this transparent kind they are wonderful .. someone has to take care of fish hygiene too let them clean fish and borke fruits and those legs or arms that are in position for cleaning :-)

In the last photo you can see the orange squash he has eaten through his clear shell.

Hey so cute shrimps! I had some little guys like this. I really love it! Nice shots!

They are really efficient tank scrubbers.
