What Crypto has taught me and how it got me into Linux

in #dtube7 years ago (edited)

Owning Crypto, and being involved in the Cryptocurrency communities has really helped me boost my computer skills.

Running miners, masternodes and full nodes for altcoins have helped me learn how to run Linux based operating systems. Before Crypto I focused on Windows operating systems. And that worked well up to the point of hodling some coins. As most wallets for altcoins are available in Windows.

Though over time I got curious about masternodes, and running my own dapps (decentralized applications). But they were written to run on Linux and not Windows.

So I had to build my skills and read many guides to start setting up my own crypto infrastructure.

Luckily along the way members of the community have been very helpful. People from the LBRY discord, along with the Horizen discord. And the help ive gotten from the #Onelovedtube discord from people like @techcoderx and @gray00 for setting up my IPFS dtube server.

I did not think I would ever be able to navigate Linux and have servers that have been running for over a year now with little to no issues. So im quite happily surprised with the outcome over the last few years.

Even if my Crypto holdings do not make a profit in the future, which I would be shocked if they didnt. But if they did fail, at least my last few years ive built up all new skills I can return to the workforce with. Or set up my own business and put those earned skills to use and I can decide the fate of my future.

Well I have been lucky in that I have been using Linux from it's early days and find doing most things easy. I even use Ubuntu Linux as my primary desktop computer. Now if I could just find a job and put my skills back to work...

@mytechtrail ah yeah your years ahead of me. I've been trying to casually use linux since the early 2000s but always struggled with certain applications. Glad I'm finally catching up. Yeah putting those skills to work would be quite valuable. If you can find something with python and linux that would be winwin
