Everyone wants some Bitcoin. It's the hot new thing that's going to change the world (allegedly). There are various places where you can buy some, but if you only want a little to play with then the fees may be a bit high. So why not get some for free? There are many sites called 'faucets' that dispense small amounts in exchange for you performing some task or just for seeing some ads. Here are a few that I've used:
- Freefan is in Russia. You can claim every five minutes and the amount available keeps increasing to a maximum of 800 Satoshi over a couple of hours. The rate slows over time. Just has a few ads and a captcha, but doesn't complain if you use an ad-blocker.
- Moonbit is similar, but I think the amount will keep increasing. It just gets so slow eventually that it's hardly changing. They do detect ad-blockers. They also have Moondoge for Dogecoin. Both of these give an accumulating bonus if you use them at least once a day plus a referral bonus and a 'mystery' bonus.
- FreeBitco.in is more of a lottery. You can play once an hour. How much you get depends on a random number. Up to 0.3btc at the moment. They have a high/low game where you can try to win more as well as a weekly lottery.
You will need a wallet to receive your winnings, e.g. Xapo.
These all have referral schemes where you get a share of anything your recruits make. So, of course, I am hoping to gain from that. I've made many dollars over the years and used some of it to buy some more Steem.
Happy fauceting!
Freefan may not be paying out. Someone else has experience of this. I got to 50k, but will wait and see if they ever pay.
I picked up a referral there, so it could have been good. I've not encountered a fake faucet before
Now if someone would make a bot that would visit automatically in your behalf, that would be something. As it is, I find faucets frustrating because of the small payouts. Like you suggest though, you only need a small amount to experiment with Bitcoin and get your feet wet.
I expect all the faucets are using captcha or similar to prevent bot activity. They are mostly relying on ads, so they need to have human visitors in order to make anything. The amounts are tiny. It can take many visits just to make a cent, but you can do it between other tasks. This is why I hope to gain a few referrals to earn me a little more. It's worth a try.
I may end up making more from this post than I do from referrals :)
Interesting. Do you use Xapo or any of these faucets?
I use them all. I have a Bleutrade wallet too, but Xapo has a nice Android app that I use. I really only have cents in btc at the moment just to play with. I drained what little I had there to buy some Steem
Thanks. I want to get into btc and I think this is a good way to have a play around for newbies :-)
See if you can get some referrals yourself to make more. Good luck
