The News
After the recent price spike $HIVE settled at a slightly higher level than before, but has now dropped a little. That will be disappointing for many, but it shows that we have to keep publicising this blockchain if we want it to succeed.

On that topic there has been more discussion about the branding and marketing of Hive. @demotruk has created a proposal about rebranding. It is for a token amount, but it is about gauging interest. The fact is that the name Hive is used by many companies and projects, including a crypto mining company. As he has said you could easily search for the old chain, but if you put Hive on its own into any search engine you will not find your way here. I get that the community had to react rapidly to the fork, but after several years it is obvious that the name is not great.
I was wondering if we could use some variation of the name. I searched for 'hivecoin' and got results on Google. I am not sure if that is related to my browsing history, but perhaps if we could get people looking for something more unique then they would find us.

I have mentioned 'hive.io' to people as that will at least get them to the project home page. @iamkaye points out out that the site is lacking in SEO (search engine optimisation). That is an art and may be trickier now that people rely on 'AI' tools to find things.
@jza also wondered about if we have any marketers. There are people here who want to improve matters, but they need to work together and there may not be any money in it initially unless they can get proposal funding.
The fact is that Hive has not grown as much as it really should and there will be various factors involved. One is that you need people to be able to find it and then get signed up. At the moment it is hard to research as it can be hard to find news unless you search for things like 'hive social blockchain' (not Hive Social as that is something else). Hive can be confusing with the various front ends, but then they do not always make it obvious what the back end is. I know some say that people should join for specific dapps, but they ought to know what else is available. We had that issue with Splinterlands where many thousands joined, but hardly any looked at blogging or even other games. That was a lost opportunity.
It can be a frustrating experience to be part of Hive, but I still believe in it. What do you think of our situation?

The Dog House
I have posted many times about the dangers of being scammed. With any sort of cryptocurrency if you give away your keys then you no longer control your wallet. @friendlymoose encountered some such scammers on Discord. I have seen this too where they pretend to be some sort of official support who will try to divert you to a different channel and get you to expose your keys. Do not fall for it.
The End
I am getting close to ten years on this blockchain and I have seen a lot. I came here hoping to earn something, but after all this time I am not so worried about that for myself as I am fortunate to not be desperate for money. Although my posts make something it is barely enough to keep me in coffee. If it eventually 'moons' then that is great, but in the meantime I am having fun with the community and hope I can help out others. I think a fair few of the 'old guard' have a similar attitude. There is nothing else quite like Hive and it offers lots of opportunities to socialise and to build cool things. It will never be perfect, but then nothing is and I focus on the positive.

I think rebranding is a brilliant idea. I noticed and mentioned before that its hard to find Hive when searching online, I found it by accident initially which is how I got here.
Rebranding might also give it a much needed breath of fresh air. SEO is something that would really help get articles seen, and potentially be a tendril to bring new people here.
As for marketing, I don't have much experience, but I have some decent editing skills if adverts were needed. I'd happily lend myself to a marketing campaign, as I think we really need it. But, until theres a rebrand of some kind, there wouldn't be much point putting time into marketing.
We need a team effort on this with different skills. You can't solve everything with 'AI', but it's a tool. People here have the necessary experience to find better ways to operate.

I haven't looked into the proposal to much yet. I may do that shortly. but as a generic answer for me I think A rebranding is a good idea but it needs to be done properly. This means no shortcuts and an actual community driven effort. I wouldn't want to see it be rushed either. I would rather them take time and even consider launching meetup events for around the time or the re-branding (if such rebranding happens)
Have a good weekend.
We've had years to think about it and I'm sure a few people have. Of course it shouldn't be rushed.
The hive name has always been problematic and in need of a new name.
As you pointed out there are so many other websites called hive and they outrank us in search.
I'm interested in a rebrand and think it may help in our visibility.
SEO has changed quite a bit in recent years but the old ways do still work in terms of long tail search.
'AI' scrapes what is already on the net or uses older training data.
Long tail search terms will still work.
As for a new name. I haven't got any ideas at the moment.
Maybe AI could suggest some names :) We could still have something related to the bee/hive theme, but perhaps with unique spelling that is not too hard to guess. We should take note of how other projects have re-branded to learn from their experience.
I'm not opposed to a rebrand, but I need to see more information before I vote on anything. I'm not impressed so far by the majority of the comments I saw on that original post about it.
I'm not an SEO or marketing person, but we have people here in those fields. There will be plenty of opinions, but we need it discussed or we will remain stuck in this rut. Other coins have rebranded and survived.
No, I'm not either, but what we are doing now clearly hasn't worked.
It's a valid point on the name but I don't think if we had a different name we would be in much better position
I get that there are other issues, but I think this does matter. If people can't even find Hive, or whatever you call it, then they won't be using it.
Update: @steevc, I paid out 19.092 HIVE and 0.000 HBD to reward 8 comments in this discussion thread.

Yeah, I know, but it will be different for each person anyway. I'm no SEO expert.
All cool. Only wanted you to know :).
I just tried it on a browser I don't generally use and got similar results. I would hope that people are testing what the experience is like for someone who hears about Hive and wants to know more.
