A dark note

in OCD5 years ago

In the darkness you played
Each note passed me through
In the darkness I laid
Bound by the sound of you.

It is getting late here and Smallsteps is coughing her little lungs out - so I will stay up a bit longer and hopefully she calms a bit. It looks like she will be home from daycare another few days, as she had been the last few. With Covid restrictions, she has to have a clear day of no symptoms in order to go.

So with a little time to spare, I continued testing the new camera and wanted to see how it would go in darker conditions and chose the inside of the piano to see if anything interesting would arrive.

There was low lamp light from the other side of the room, but nothing direct except for the fifth shot. These are handheld with a range of settings.

I think they are pretty cool in black and white and I think at some point I might try to get a couple nice ones that could go up on the wall. I like having original art on the walls and since I can't afford to buy, my own will have to do.

OI000752.jpg

The piano itself is no Steinway, but it is in good condition and has been loved a long time. Smallsteps has been playing it a lot today and singing along to her "tunes". It is pretty cute.

OI000757.jpg

What isn't cute, is not having slept for a few nights well and then working throughout the days and night. Though, I burned 2000+ calories taking down a wall and doing some work in the garden. My head is more tired than my body.

OI000755.jpg

My body isn't in prime condition though and I have been eating far too many autumn pies of late, so any calories burned probably still won't be enough. Once we are all healthy (wife is ill and I am on the way), I will start exercising more. There is a new gym at work that is free to use, so I might be able to squeeze in a short session there and a longer session at my local own gym. I haven't been for ages and it shows.

Well, one bit of good news is that while I have been writing and editing the images, Smallsteps has settled and hopefully she will sleep through. She has been getting up at five in the morning lately and since it is almost two now, there hasn't been a huge amount of unbroken sleep. So... Bedtime.

That wasn't too dark. :)

Damn...you all caught it? Sending sunshine and stuff!

Yeah, well - we are all living together. Mine is mild enough that I still have to do the renovation work - with "mild enough" being. I am not in hospital ;D

Take care of yourself and your family! you are tough, you’ll beat it in no time. ☀️

Hope she gets well soon.

Thanks, me too. She is a good kid and I wish she could enjoy it more. Well, she enjoys life, but being sick so often sucks for anyone.

I see a lot of things of interest did arise. These are fabulous.
I hope small steps feels better very soon.

It is nice to photograph random objects - it gives them a new usecase - since I don't play the piano ;D

Hopefully she does - the last months have been tiring

I feel sorry for smallsteps, I know what it is like to have those persistent coughing fits where you just want to use a turkey baster and get what ever is clogging your throat out.

I think I like the 4th. Symmetry with out perfection. It catches my eye the little slight and subtle differences in the positioning of the parts.

That shot reminds me of an old factory filled with some kind of large pistons :)

One of the images it conjured in my mind was of the ancient movie METROPOLIS (Germany, 1927). hard to believe that is almost 100 years old, and still different things I see will remind me of it, and I have not even watched it since the early 70's. (I think I saw it on it's 50th anniversary in 77).

Metropolis was a great film! I haven't seen it since I was a teen I think - perhaps I should rewatch it with a different background.

I have been thinking of a re-watch since the inside of your piano shot, will likely watch it this evening to wind down Sunday.

Hope she is well soon. Kudos to the creativity and the way you write. yeah yeah I went back to my original self and calling you out for writing original pieces. It was not dark but full of promises that leads to 10 hrs of continuous sleep 😝
Good luck

I got 6 hours of continuous sleep (mostly) which is 2 more than usual :D

Every piece on Hive should be original to some degree. It is far more valuable for the platform and the individual.

I agree. Hope this platform goes big and your original content gets more exposure.

Love the close-ups photos, really great details...especially the second to the last one with the name stamped into the frame.

I hope smallsteps will recover soon. 🙏

My son, luckily, has not experienced much in the way of sickness lately, the last time he was really down was around 2 am on my 40th birthday. :-)

I am not sure if Hellas from Helsinki is known for its great pianos, but the sound isn't bad.

It is always nice o have a clear period of no illness - but they never last it seems. Enjoy it while you can :D

I have picked your post for my daily hive voting initiative, Keep it up and Hive On!!

My kids at that age were still in bed with me most of the time so while I still got woken up by sick children at least I didn't have to stay up with them. Hope small feels better soon and you're able to get more sleep!

The camera (or the lens, I'm never sure which is more responsible XD) seems to perform pretty well under low light :)

She comes into our bed some mornings now - but normally we get up. She has been in her own room since she was 4 months old - which some people think is some kind of abuse - she started to sleep "properly" for the first time.

And yeah, the camera is pretty good. It also has this thing (I discovered) that will take the grain out post photo in camera. I will have to test it on and off and see what the difference is.

I am sending my love for smallsteps. I wish her recovery immediately. My little daughter was very sick last month. body temperature was between 38-40 degrees for 3 days. and this waiting is really difficult. I also liked the photo details. black and white suits them.

Yeah -we had the same here a couple weeks ago and it last 6 days - so we went to the doctor. Prolonged illness is never nice for anyone. We are really careful with high fevers though as a few years ago Smallsteps had seizures either because of them or they were caused by the seizure. Every time it rises, we remember those times :/

A lot of things look better in black and white :)

For some reason we all fall into the habit of not exercising from time to time.

I used to be so consistent for about 20 years - now I struggle to do something weekly.

I wish your family good health.

P.s. The camera is great.

Been pretty happy with it so far, though would like a little more time to get outside with it :)

Uggggghhhhh. I hope smallsteps is well enough to go to daycare soon. Not that I give a rip about the daycare but it's the 'well enough' in that part of the sentence that I care about.

I don't know if it's a comfort or not, but I was a little sickly as a kid. I caught EVERYTHING that went around and a couple things that didn't really go around. I had bronchitis every winter. Until I turned 20-I've been on a 50 year journey of astoundingly good health.

Really interesting photos. I'm liking the looks (or should that be 'sees') of that Olympus every time you post photos.

Man. The possibility is that I've had it wrong all these years. I've always thought I ate the pies to be able to work hard rather than working hard to mitigate the effect of the pies...

She enjoys playing with her friends there and it makes things much easier on us here too.

I don't know if it's a comfort or not, but I was a little sickly as a kid.

I see this as an origin story and I hope similar for smallsteps, where she will build up resistance and tolerance to all kinds of things.

We should research and write a book:

"Pienomics"

Oh, man. I'm in. Way better than volunteering for a vaccine test. It'd be worth the health risks for Pienomics. #Pienomics

I think the bar to get a Professorship in Pienomics will be quite low right now, but will soon become highly sort after.

I have a really good friend in Massachusetts that could teach the course. He has a degree in English from Oxford and rides a motorcycle but 25 years ago they didn't have a wedding cake, they had wedding pie! He hasn't slowed up any since then. I could probably convince him to give me an honorary...

Imagine at the university open days...

"By the looks of you, you are great fit for pienomics"

I honestly do wish you all perfect health. Not being completely healthy and still trying to care for a sick child must be exhausting. I do know what it's like not being able to be around friends especially as a kid. This shots are pretty amazing. Nice job.

Not being completely healthy and still trying to care for a sick child must be exhausting.

It is! Kids are more annoying when I am sick ;D

Hahaha. I can totally relate.

We are going through a difficult time. I wish you all good health. I hope your little girl gets well soon.
