Head, tail or split down the middle kinda whale?

Since it is The mid-year Hive Power Up Day, I thought I'd get crazy and dump all my liquids into my HP, which happened to be just enough to get my account half way to the whaledom, a mythical place in the Hive ecosystem that requires 500,000 HIVE POWER for the label. With half that, I am sitting in 66th position on the account HIVE POWER list. In order to cross the line, I had to eat a dolphin.

This might be my last major powerup for a while, as I would like to have some liquids free for when there is finally a major pump on HIVE - but I have said that before and here we are AGAIN.

There is an addiction to Hive gamification and as I have said many times in the last four and a half years, it is the best game on the internet. Not only is there the Hive and Hive-related aspects of it, but Hive is a hub for many things crypto related, as it is a point of information sharing where there are many interested parties gathered together, speculating both financially and predictively on all kinds of market conditions. Then there are all the applications, interfaces, initiatives and of course, HIVE mining opportunities to use and take advantage of, in a diverse community of players, all participating as they choose.

When it comes to market sentiment, if the rest of crypto users were as connected to the industry as Hiveans are, the industry would explode and be unstoppable. I think that a lot of what holds crypto back from mainstreaming, is that other than the perceived potential for financial gains, most users don't actually use the industry itself. They might sit in Telegram and Reddit groups and like some Tweets on CryptoTwitter, but only a low percentage are actually adding much activity onto the blockchains themselves and most of what people are adding, are token transfers transactions. This limits crypto to the currency side of things, rather than the industry of business enablement possible.

How I see it in the future though, is that "monetary" transactions are going to be a side effect of business activity, not the business itself as most of the industry is now. I think that the Custom JSONs of Splinterlands activity is a good example of business activity on Hive and this type of transaction mass will grow exponentially across all blockchains that offer real utility. People talk about the utility of a token, but a lot of it is promiseware utility with even the people backing the future, not actually using the blockchain itself.

Hive probably has one of the highest utilization rates in crypto for non financial transactions by the user base, but of course, all of it is still tied to some kind of financial expectation, which is how an economy should work. One of the reasons that people believe mainstream Bitcoin adoption requires vendors accepting it as a currency, is because it doesn't have much use otherwise. However, HIVE doesn't actually need to be accepted externally for it to be used, because there is a strong reason for usage on the Hive blockchain itself, even if there is that expectation of being able to benefit from the value of it off-chain too.

This sets up part of the gamification model of course, as it puts tension between buying and selling, as well as powering up and staying liquid, as there are benefits to both, but one can't have the cake and eat it too. Powering up gives access to the rewards pool and the ability to allocate it, but it takes away the ability to sell the tokens on the market. Selling will get an immediate return of some kind, but buying allows for staking and that access.

These basic tensions set up social gamification mechanisms too, where having HIVE powered up leads to some kind of influence on the platform, without having to be influential as a person. This can be important for those who for example want to be part of building the Hive platform future, but aren't the kinds of people who want or are able to develop or write about these kinds of things - so instead support those who do and can with their stake.

There are so many sides to Hiving that are enjoyable in numerous ways, which is why even though I would like to have liquids available, I also don't mind powering up my HIVE to do more with it than just transact it as a token. Reaching the point of "half a whale" means having 25x more HIVE than I ever thought I would hold and while I don't think I will ever make it all the way to the 500K, I am looking forward to the value this stake can generate, on and off the chain, in all the ways it can be used.

I don't know if I am the head half, the tail half or a half of a whale split down the middle, but I am glad that in my time here, I have been able to support a lot of people on their own Hive journeys over the years, as community development is one of the usecase reasons for powering up I value. It might amount to naught, or it might be a key to changing the world. I want to be part of finding out.

Love the article! Only hope that more people like you will join HIVE and help the growing of the community! 2 months here for now, and things are looking GREAT so far! 💛💛

Have you explored Hive a lot so far?

I have been reading extensively on some very interesting posts involving the crypto world, which is quite new for me. Beside that, I have to say that I have been using HIVE as my picture-blog and I have been shifting more and more towards HIVE than Instagram for instance. Having said that - I still firmly believe that HIVE has a lot of growth potential and I hope that one day it will be fulfilled 😄

This is great to hear. I hope that in the future, there will be more of this movement. Have you been using @dapplr for uploading?

Can't say that I have, I am yet to find out what this profile is 😄

It is an app that you might find useful for Insta type posts :)

I agree. Hive is addictive and there is a real commitment to the platform and vision. If only other cryptos had the same momentum. Thanks.

It would be interesting to see a lot of "social" interaction on many of the large cryptos that happen on chain, yet most are stuck in web 2.

Congratulations on the milestone @tarazkp!

I do like the point you make about Hive having, how did you put it "highest utilization rates in crypto for non financial transactions by the user base" and that BTC has no use at all. Technically, I suppose its use is as an asset class. Now. I remember thinking exactly that when I first heard about it - how many years ago? I can't remember. I do recall liking the barter/exchange approach but not venturing down that road because I need(ed) fiat to pay the bills. Things have come a long way since then.

Thanks for your support of the redfish and minnow accounts, and especially of the Silver Bloggers. Much appreciated.

Technically, I suppose its use is as an asset class.

Yes, that is the case. But aside from being "money" it is pretty useless.

No worries. I promise to be more active once this reno panic stuff is out of the way in the next week or so :)

Well, if you are a platyhelminth whale you will be able to grow the other half.

Love the way you always recognise the many different ways and layers through which individuals can contribute to growing Hive.

I was thinking along similar lines and twitching uncomfortably when I read the title XD

hehe - hard to avoid the idea!

Nature is horrifying! :D

I think it is important (especially for new people) to consider different sides of Hive. A lot of us come in through a particular gateway and usecase, and it is easy to get "stuck" in thinking that our way is the best/main way of interaction.

More confidence than me, I am still top heavy in HIVE.

consumer confidence is high - perhaps "high" is a symptom of usage ;D

I've been here since 2017, yet I'm still a tiny fish.
If all my crypto investment dreams come true, I might have to make some powering up here too :)

Thank you for supporting other users. And whatever half you are, I hope you complete the other one soon 😁 @tarazkp

I've been here since 2017, yet I'm still a tiny fish.

You have 189 posts and 231 comments in 4 years with a gap of a couple years between. Probably has something to do with.

Hopefully your dreams do come true :)

Yes, I know I'm kinda guilty about being lazy :)

Hopefully your dreams do come true :)

Thanks.
Wish you further successes both inside and outside the Hive context :))

I think a lot of people are similar. Being here a long time, doesn't mean putting in the work for a long time :)

I've been here since 2017, yet I'm still a tiny fish.

Same here. And many people can say the same. A tiny fish rarely become bigger, but a big fish always become bigger and bigger.

Yes, it needs some effort, some time, and a whole lot of luck

I don't know if I am the head half, the tail half or a half of a whale split down the middle

Actually it doesn't matter what you are! You actions do speak out. You do reply on all comments you do get. So well deserved!
I do wonder where and if you do get time to read other's post! My posts don't have this interaction count and sometimes it is hard to catch up. For sure I you also want to read what others are writing!

So for you are taraz the friendly giant :)

Enjoy the powers!

I do wonder where and if you do get time to read other's post!

I generally do read a few a day, but not always at the moment, as I have been getting crushed by all the digferent kinds of work at the moment. I try to spread my support out and don't have many autos set.

My posts don't have this interaction count and sometimes it is hard to catch up.

It is common that I spend as much time commenting as I do reading, but it is hard to get off my own blog at times because of it. I don't judge myself too harshly for it these days though :)

AmI the head or the butt of the giant? ;D

AmI the head or the butt of the giant? ;D

Well because you are a guy I would go for the head.
Now I do have 2 sons (9 and 12), so I told them that a guy is a boobs or but man 😂. We are way too liberal in our education I guess. No topic is taboo. The way it is told is.

I prefer the whole package ;

I like the description of swallowing a dolphin. Congratulations on this great milestone.

Thank you for helping people reach their targets with your stake. It is very encouraging.

Congratulations once more 🎉

How are things in your neck of the woods? Lots of doctoring going on?

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

Yeah.. Lots of doctoring I must say... I was just taken by the biggest hospital in Nigeria and I am so scared of the patient load as I am scared of losing my social life.

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

If you want a career as a doctor, you have to make some sacrifices. =)
I know several specialists here who still work insane hours.

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

At least the pay is good there. Here its not worth it but just for the passion

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

Yeah, in general it is. However, who knows what happens in your future there or perhaps somewhere else.

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

I am totally with you on that one! I have such a hard time keeping my Hive liquid. I always find myself moving it from one place to another. I always see it sitting there and I think, oh, I may as well just power it up, I can always make more right?! Then next thing I know it is either moved to Hive-Engine to buy Leo or something like that, or it is powered up to my account. I am going to be doing my powerup and writing my powerup post soon.

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

oh, I may as well just power it up, I can always make more right?!

abundance mindset and the will to make it happen :)

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

nice one, i finally made it to ORCA - not originally planned, was there almost during Steem(it) times but then pumped all into other Hive ecosystem stuff such as Spliterlands but I feel kind of better now, or relaxed - whale status is far away and no goals bit who knows about the future :-) - i will keep future liquids mainly for other DApps / 2nd layer tokens or even for a pump.

I wonder how many people are "technical orcas/whales/dolphins" if they count their crypto together, and I wonder if there will come a time where people will be diversifying into HIVE, instead of out of it. =)

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

technically probably many, even within Hive there are more - just saying my splinterlands stake (ok depending on market prize / day) is always between $20-39k and I think we have a lot folks that invest more in DApps va. HP here - which is good. Counting all crypto together would be a nice challenge - counting now

The amount of wealth on Hive is likely enormous if counted together.

There is an addiction to Hive gamification and as I have said many times in the last four and a half years, it is the best game on the internet.

And the easiest for the rich people.
And the hardest for the poor people.

This "game" should be the definition of pay-to-win.

And the easiest for the rich people.
And the hardest for the poor people.

Isn't that the way for everything?

And by the way I have earned the majority of my Hive and started from absolutely nothing.

Isn't that the way for everything?

Not everything. Poor people usually have great hearths, they are could often give you the last of their things, while the rich are mostly selfish and greedy. They want more and more, and only for themselves. They often would not give you a single cent, while most of the poor would give their last cent. This is the difference. The soul. The generosity.

That is a nonsense exercise in stereotyping.

I speak from personal experience. I received help mostly from the poor and even disabled people, like me. Can you imagine getting a set of glasses from a blind couple from your workplace? This is what happened to me. And my disabled co-workers are constantly helping me, while everyone else (including the government) are ignoring me, as if I would not even exist!

Can you imagine getting a set of glasses from a blind couple from your workplace?

I have been helped and helped many people in my life, so I don't need to imagine these kinds of things.

Looking strictly at HIVE, and only Hive, no before hive, I started 2021 with 7831 HP, Today I have 8534 Hive an increase of 703 HP almost a 10% growth. I am hoping by the year end to still reach 10,000 HP. I think I have a good chance of it.

Not all my Hive got powered up either, some was given away to help others start, some was sent to Hive Engine to try and learn more about investing in assets, and some over to ionomy to learn a little bit more about investing, many will say that under 10% is not a lot in the crypto sphere, but it is a larger increase than many on Hive, and more than many actualize when it comes to crypto.

10% in 6 months is huge, it is just that in the cryptosphere, we relate it to some quite ludicrous returns - but Hive is stable in the return of Hive on things like curation and interest rates. I suspect you will make it to 10 by the end of the year - just a couple more posts a month will help do it :)

I actually managed a few more post this last month, need to do more, wild flowers have just started to pop in Alaska, saw our first dandelions today in fact. We may not have much green in our yard, but the town heat Islands are doing pretty good. So hope to get a few more out the next two or three, mostly flowers likely but other summer things to.

Hive Power Up Day - June 1st 2021 - Hive Power Delegation

Congratulations! I actually did not power up for the first time in forever! It spooked me to see so many people with large accounts powering down, and so I just put it on hold, but, I am sure I will do it next month.

Heads or tails?

I’m at lower level but ur points make great sense! This is inspiring to read.
Cheers 🍻

Congratulations on your impressive power up, huge achievement becoming half-of-a-whale and climbing up to ranking 66th! Well done!💪

hello, friend delighted with this post. I want to congratulate you on your writing, it is understood very clearly. I also want to thank you for the support you have given me. I am new to hive and I hope to make many Friends ❤
