After getting in late from Helsinki last night, I was hoping for a quiet day of chilling out and enjoying the few days of extreme heat, where it is nearing 30°C - which is rare and must be enjoyed to the fullest when available. Instead, from half eight in the morning, I was out helping to build the terrace instead. It was pretty warm work out there, but was satisfying and now at least, I can say that I have done some significant portions of it. And I have homework over the weekend to do some more.

But after I had finished up what I was doing and, after we ate some barbecued meat and veggies, we headed down to the lake for a swim - where the water has finally warmed up and is really, really pleasant. Supposedly, the water temperature is around 25°C itself, because the part of the huge lake we are close to, is in a sheltered bay and traps some warmth.

We went swimming at a different point I hadn't visited before, where instead of a bit of rocky beach, it was just a dip in from a deck. It is also positioned next to a fancy new house that looks out of place in what is an old suburban area. It is definitely not built in the normal Finnish style, and is more concrete and glass. I wouldn't mind a mini version for a summer place.

There were only a couple of people who came and went around the same time, so much of our short time there was spent just the three of us, talking about the warm water and how rare it is to have days like this, and about what we plan to do in the next couple days which should be similar. For me...
My patio homework.
But might squeeze in a swim too.

A family of four ducklings came to say hello too. It seems that they have been fed at this point before, as they were so tame and came so close, but we didn't have any food to give. Nature is pretty clean around here and there were heaps of fish darting in and out of the reeds to the side of the pier.

But even after the evening swim, the work for the day wasn't over, as the grass needed to be cut. It was too hot earlier in the day to do it in the sun, so it was after eight before I fired up the lawnmower. I even trimmed the edges. Other than the short walk to swim, I haven't left the yard and have collected over 15,000 steps. That is 65,000 in four days.
Feels like a holiday.

On a hot day - the lake is the best choice. I often remember the closest to me clean forest lake with springs, when I was a schoolboy we spent a lot of time there and in addition to swimming caught crayfish.
Some people do that here, but I have never tried. It is popular in Australia too.
Looks like a great spot and you guys need to take full advantage of the weather as I can imagine this lake is an ice rink for many months of the year. I would skip the terrace leaving it for an overcast day.
Me too - but the contractor is back on Monday and I am trying o lighten his load (and hours) :D
Makes financial sense if you help with some of the work.
A perfect holiday time ! Work - swim - mowing and hive. I must say you have a very artistic side of your photography skills. You make them looks completelly different from any other photographer perspective. Is it something you developed overtime or learned these minute skill?
When it comes to photography, I have just developed as I go. I have been taking amateur photos for a long time now though!
Decks over water like that kind of freak me out for swimming unless there's a good amount of head room because I know of people who have gotten stuck under similar structures (didn't end badly but it was hairy).
30C is so not extreme heat XD
Looked like a beautiful day for a swim :D
Finnish summer - over 25 is considered hot weather! :D
I am not a big fan of swimming in lakes in general, but there is little problem under these decks as there are no waves at all.
I used to go over to my inlaws and swim in the pool after working in the yard all day. We don't live quite as close, so I don't really do that anymore. There is something really refreshing about swimming in the lake.
A pool would be great, but it would have to be indoor here and then it would need to be a super fancy house! When I was in Australia, I enjoyed swimming in pools on hot days, but about 50% of homes had one where I lived.
There is something like a feeling of childhood in it. Don't know why.
Yeah, that is a good point. They only get to use their pool about three or four months out of the year. I think when they move they will probably skip the pool.
For a while now I will be cutting grass in three homes- ours, our favorite neighbour's and another neighbour's who will be gone for a few months. It seems that I can call myself a pro now.😛
You can start a summer business!
Great pictures, you have an artistic eye...
The ducks look just like here in Seattle :) We have lots of those and Canadian Geese...
I take it your wife doesn't mind you posting all these pictures? Mine would have been pretty upset with me if I did...
My wife doesn't mind, as long as they aren't too revealing or make her look silly. She is used to it after all these years. I think she is beautiful!
No argument there.
My wife would be very upset with me if I posted any of our faces, she already mentioned that I disclose way too much on Hive...
BBQ! :)
the water looks soooooooooo good! 😉☺️🤙🌈
More than with words of love towards her family, they are having a lot of fun, garden, terrace, weather, swimming lagoon everything adds up and it's a way to disconnect to sow beautiful memories in your daughter's childhood, I read her post and relived similar moments with my beloved parents, when I was a child.
My dad turns 89 tomorrow Saturday. I am so grateful to my parents for all the beautiful things they left in my heart as a child. Happy mini holidays, Mr Tarazkp
It's amazing how wildlife can get used to being around humans, and it seems like they were really friendly :)
Spending time with family like this is so loving as this brings much loving memories to remember someday and also to unite the bond of togetherness.
Hard work, nature, and a calm swim sound like an ideal summer day!
That's so cute! Your daughter looks really so cute. Hope you all enjoyed well!
Amazing captures!!
With big step counts like that, you should be posting on @actifit haha!
Sounds like an all-star warm weekend in Finland! What a treat.
