[Movies] Rocketman

A musical fantasy about the fantastical human story of Elton John's breakthrough years.
Paramount Pictures

I watched Rocketman tonight and I have mixed feelings about it. After watching Bohemian Rhapsody, I was hoping for something on the same level.

Elton John is played by Taron Egerton (Kingsman movies) which felt like a good casting choice. Like Queen, I really don't know much about Elton John so I was going into the movie blind.

While I enjoyed watching the movie and learning more about Elton John's life, I found two things that create a large distraction to the story and pacing of the movie.

The movie had many sections that were like a musical where the main character is singing but no one is actually listening or paying attention. They are in their own world while the rest goes on as if he isn't even there. Some scenes Elton John is shown singing and other people join in singing different lines but it is clear they are in their own world and not singing with Elton John, just having Disney on Ice like experience.

The second frustration was the few scenes where it no longer followed the laws of nature. People would float and realism would slip away into make-believe. While it didn't ruin the movie, I found those scenes frustrating and just didn't fit in.

I remember a quote that was mentioned prior to the movie's release. Elton John was asked if the movie will be rated PG-13 or rated R and his response was 'I Haven't Led a PG-13 Life'.

Taron Egerton was fantastic, he was energetic and captivating. As I said before, I don't know much about Elton John but what I do know fits Taron's performance perfectly.

The wardrobe department had their work cut out for them with this movie, Taron wore a different extravagant outfit almost every scene. Some of them obviously took a lot of work.

My wife mentioned there was an episode on Project Runway where they were tasked with creating outfits from the movie. One of the designers did so well one of the reps from the production said he wished he could have used the design in one of the main scenes in the movie.

While I liked the movie and would recommend it, I think it could have been a lot better by keeping it more realistic and true to life.

After the movie, I checked out this article to get a feel for how realistic the movie was to his real life. For the most part, it was on point, but there are a lot of timeline and small details that were changed.

Thanks for the review, based on what you've written, I don't think I'll be checking this one out. I don't know much about Elton John either, so it would take an amazing review to make me want to watch this.

Hi, thanks for using the aaa tag for TripleA.
I would like to forward the following article, as our manual curation is changing.

I liked it, but I am a huge Elton fan.

The thing is that elton is dramatic. If he were on steem he would own all the drama tokens.

You can't just tell Elton's story in a straight line without flair. Because that is who Elton is.

However, I do agree with you that Bohemian Rhapsody was better
