Historic Murat Bridge & Murat River in Spring, Muş, Turkey

in Worldmappin8 days ago

The rains have stopped in Türkiye, the weather has warmed up, and now it's time to travel. All the conditions are ripe for sightseeing. Although I can't travel very far, I prefer to visit cities and places near me. Even if I've been here before, these places have a different charm in different seasons. I've been here before in summer and autumn. This is my first time coming here in spring.

My friend was picking up relatives from the airport, and since we had plenty of time, we wanted to see this place. I was especially curious about it this spring. Because of the heavy rainfall, it was impossible not to be curious about the rush of the Murat River. As expected, the Murat River was quite rushing. The sound of the river became unbearable after a while. We moved a little further away and watched from a distance.

The bridge is thought to be at least 1000 years old. Although official sources state that it was built by the Seljuks, locals say it was built by Armenians. The bridge was restored at certain times during the Seljuk and Ottoman periods. The bridge is quite long and has 12 spans.

It was quite quiet because it was a weekday, and there weren't many visitors. It's mostly middle-aged and young people who frequent this area. I haven't seen many elderly people on my previous visits. The area around the bridge has cafes, restaurants, and tea gardens. These businesses operate in a fairly large area. Especially at the establishments located on the hilltop, overlooking the region, it's enjoyable to eat while watching the Murat River and the historic bridge; the taste of the food and drinks is enhanced. Because the weather was a bit warm, and to explore other parts of Muş city, we left after about half an hour.

The river looks immense and the currents are very strong; it scared me a little—or rather, the force of the water intimidated me. It must be that impressive, since the noise made them keep their distance. That said, the color of these austere waters is truly beautiful. Best regards.

Thank you so much for visiting. The melting snow and rain make the river quite turbulent at this time of year.
