Heute zeig ich Euch die Kathedrale von Vilnius mit dem dazu gehörigem Glockenturm. Die Kathedrale ist dem Heiligen St. Stanislaus und St. Ladislaus gewidmet.
Today I will show you the cathedral of Vilnius with its bell tower. The cathedral is dedicated to St. Stanislas and St. Ladislaus.
Seit ihrer Errichtung 1251 am Ort eines vorchristlichen Tempels hat die Kathedrale etliche Umwandlungen erlebt. Ihr heutiges Aussehen stammt weitgehend aus dem späten 18. Jahrhundert. Der Architekt Lauryus Stuoka-Gucevicius brachte den Klassizismus ins barocke Vilnius. Seine Idee für die Umgestaltung orientierte sich an griechischen Tempeln. 1950 wurde die Kathedrale von den Sowjets geschlossen, die sie als LKW-Werkstatt nutzen wollten, dann aber 1959 als Galerie eröffneten. 1989 ging der Bau an die katholische Kirche zurück, ein Jahr vor der Unabhängigkeit wurde sie neu geweiht.Der Eintritt ist frei.
Since its construction in 1251 on the site of a pre-Christian temple, the cathedral has undergone several transformations. Its present appearance dates largely from the late 18th century. The architect Lauryus Stuoka-Gucevicius brought classicism to baroque Vilnius. His idea for the redesign was based on Greek temples. In 1950 the cathedral was closed by the Soviets, who wanted to use it as a truck workshop, but then opened it as a gallery in 1959. In 1989 the building went back to the Catholic Church, one year before independence it was consecrated anew.
Auf der Westseite der Kathedrale steht der Glockenturm, der ursprünglich zur Stadtbefestigung gehörte. Der Glockenturm ist 52 m hoch, mit dem Kreuz zusammen misst er ganze 57 m. Mann kann die 252 Stufen nach oben gehen, von da man einen tollen Ausblick auf die Stadt hat. Der Eintritt beträgt für Erwachsene € 4,50, für Schüler, Studenten und Senioren € 2,50.
On the west side of the cathedral stands the bell tower, which originally belonged to the city fortification. The bell tower is 52 m high, together with the cross it measures 57 m. You can walk up the 252 steps from where you have a great view of the city. Admission for adults is € 4.50, for pupils, students and seniors € 2.50.
