UPDATE: I heard back from the excellent experts at Hawk Watch International, and they said this guy is actually a Red-tailed Hawk! It means my visitor is now officially a lifer for me!
Around 11am this morning, I was sitting at my computer (as per usual), poking around on the interwebz and getting caught up on stuff. I slowly realized the always-noisy chipmunks and squirrels were REALLY chattering about something. Just as the thought, "I wonder what's up" formed in my brain, it went dead quiet outside.
I looked up, and discovered the reason.

I grabbed my camera, and started firing away. I managed to get about a dozen shots (through the pollen covered window, which is a fair miracle) before something caught his eye, and he took off. I've sent in to Hawk Watch International again for confirmation, but I'm fairly sure this is the same Broad-winged Hawk who visited last week.
My hubby loved the first one so much, he immediately made it the wallpaper on his phone. Oh, and while I did run that one through the "Auto Adjust" option on PicMonkey, I decided to leave the rest of the photos untouched (other than resizing so I wouldn't hurt Steemit's brain).

I have never seen a hawk before, though pretty sure we don't have them in Australia haha. I wish though, would be awesome.
I think you have Kites in Australia, which are part of the raptor family that Hawks belong to. I did a quick Google and found this very interesting story too! 😮
Australian “Firehawk” Raptors Intentionally Spread Wildfires
What a glorious creature! This guy looks like he owns the world and we can't have any! lol
LOL! Yep, that's EXACTLY the look on his face! And most likely what he was thinking too... 😊

These are wicked awesome captures, Traci! You really have a "hawk" eye!
LOL! Thanks, Roger!

WHAT A BEAUTY !!! It (pc title) is awesome ..... fantastic shots, thanks @traciyork
Thanks so much, @themagus. And good idea with the PC salutation - definitely wouldn't want that bird angry with me!
Gorgeous!! Check how long its legs are!!
We are lucky here too, to have a whole bunch of birds of prey that hang out on the telephone lines and fences as we drive into town.
These are great pics however, so do you have a bazooka lense you use to get close up?
There is something majestic about birds of prey that has always drawn me to them
That sounds amazing! I'd tell my family that it was my fan club lining the telephone wires and fences... LOL!
Actually, I got wicked lucky, and he perched pretty close to my house, so I just used my regular zoom. He's sitting on the same branch as the top Turkey Vulture in the photo below, so you can see how close he got -
And I'm the same way - I was beyond excited when I realized how many creatures, including BoP, lived in the woods behind our house. Hawks (three different species so far), owls, turkey vultures, crows - love 'em all!
Oh man, we have some crows all around us, and they are NOISY!! These buggers (clever buggers howbeit) have that coarse kaah kaah that I dont really like, but I love when they click to communicate....that is a sound I quite like.
I once saw 2 falcon take chace a bird, and then a 3rd one took it out the air from the opposite direction....was amazing!!!
Nice back yard BTW
Yep, crows are wicked talkers! I had one crow, a couple years back, who'd have conversations with me - he'd caw caw, I'd whistle whistle, and we'd go back and forth. I have a few videos up on YouTube... which reminds me, I wanted to recreate & update the post I did about "my crows." Gotta get to that some day...
That must've been an incredible thing to witness!
And thanks! We're spoiled - our landlord owns something like 20 acres behind us, and beyond that is 700 acres of conservation land. Yet it's only a couple miles to the nearest pizza joint - LOL!
Ah man, that is stunning!! I love that sort of nature. These days its almost something you HAVE TO pay for to enjoy.
Its sad really.
Thanks so much, @towjam. And I know - I feel spoiled on a regular basis that we get to live here. 😊
