I was hoping to have another new wander for this week, but since it didn't work out, I'm back to my archives again for a wicked wayback Wednesday Walk from August 16th 2016. To be fair, I didn't take these all within 5 minutes, but I did get them all over the course of that particular day (which, judging by the lighting, must have been a bit overcast).
I did use a few of these shots for Foto Friday post back in 2016, but the rest of the fourteen have only been seen by our landlady and her family a select few. 😊
Speaking of wandering, don't forget to wander on over to @tattoodjay's latest post, called Wednesday walk challenge and Steem Basic Income Give away which features some wicked cool buildings in Milford Connecticut. Oh, and thanks again @tattoodjay for the SBI! Much appreciated!
Now, on to my photos from August 16th 2016!

If I recall correctly, I opened our bedroom curtains that morning around 6am (according to the time stamp on the photo) to see this gorgeous guy hanging out on the tree outside the window...

...but I do recall asking a birding expert to confirm the ID - this is an Adult Broad-winged Hawk.

Later that morning, as I meandered around the yard, I spotted this dragonfly hanging out on a rock.

Our landlady set up a flowerbox on her garden wall, and it looked so pretty even in the gloomy lighting.

She also tried planting some flowers under their memorial tree.

These are called Moss Roses, aka Portulaca

There's a beautiful variety of colors!

Some of these bloomed the following year, but after that, I don't recall seeing them come back.

Just behind me, in our landlord's veggie garden, a humming bird decided to say hello whilst perched on a bean stalk.

He darted off, but I managed to follow him over to the Shagbark Hickory tree

Looks like he heard something - maybe Mr Hawk decided to fly back over...

... or maybe not, since he seems to be enjoying this perch!

This was also the day I put out a new feeder, and Ms. Goldfinch had the honor of being my first guest.

I wasn't as pleased with the second visitor however! Guess Mr. Red Squirrel didn't get the memo that this one is supposed to be squirrel proof! Although I'm guessing by the look on his face, he was figuring that out... 😂
Happy walking & see you next week!

How cool to open the Window and see that beautiful bird out there I am kind of glad you didnt have new shots and shared these ;)
all the other shots are super also such beautiful sights you got on that day :)
thanks for joining Wednesday Walk :)
In the 7 years we've lived here, more than a few beautiful birds have landed on that branch - just something about it, I guess, but whatever it is, I appreciate it immensely! Thanks so much in return, @tattoodjay!
Who cares what attracts them as long as it does and may they keep coming :))
Absoulutely stunning photography 💕💕 Especially that hummingbird 😮😍

Thanks so much, @thereikiforest! We get spoiled by the hummingbirds around here, thanks to our landlady feeding them so well. 😊
Gotta love squirrel proof feeders! Those moss roses are so lovely... they are such charming little flowers!
I have to say, out of all the feeders I've tried, that one is the most squirrel proof, and also provided the most entertainment as they tried to figure it out! I agree - I'd never seen moss roses before, and they are wicked charming. Thanks so much for dropping by, @melinda010100! 😊
The flowers are so colorful. And all the images just refreshed my eyes.
Thanks for sharing.
I'm glad you enjoyed the pictures, @rem-steem and thank you for your kind words! 😊
Enjoyable walk as always!
Thanks, @old-guy-photos! Hope you're feeling better! 😊 🤗
That's a perfect photo of a troublesome squirrel!
Aww, thanks @tarotbyfergus! They can be such pains (thinking of all the nests/chewed wires in our cars), but at least they make up for it by posing pretty! 😂 😊
Those are wicked great! Love the hummingbird. That’s amazing you could get it sitting still. It doesn’t seem like they do so for long.
I know, @jayna - I have to say, the first time I saw a hummingbird just sitting on a tree branch, I was worried it was sick. However, after watching them over the years, I think it's because our landlady spoils them with the awesome nectar she puts out every day, and in return they've become downright friendly! And thanks so much! 😊

Lovely shots of the young hawk. It seems a overcast day is great for taking photos.
Sometimes I prefer to take pictures on overcast days, @redheadpei - seems to make the colors really pop! And thanks so much! 😊
Oh, to open up the day to that little guy must have been so amazing! It sure does start the day off right and it can only continue in that same direction when one gets to wander about in the proximity of your back yard!
Portulaca was always my mother's favorite for putting in odd spots and I do the same. It is always a riot of color and whether dry or wet out, it blooms profusely. Talk about the perfect planting!
I laugh at the squirrel as I have the same problem, different squirrel. I would give them some, but, then I will never get rid of them and they will bring all their relatives! I just don't have that much food!
You have the tamest hummingbirds! The ones around me are off and running if they see my eyes in their direction! Pfft!
Have a great Thursday, Traci!! Mwah!

A local friend says we live in the most magical spot ever, and I can't argue with that, given how spoiled I get with all the wildlife visits. It almost makes up for the... eclectic house we live in (it's technically a one bedroom, and we have three kids, sooo...lol!).
Okay, I supposed I should clarify a little since that sounds like we all bunk in the same room. 😜 The first floor is set up like a one bedroom apartment, and the upstairs is one huge space with vaulted ceilings, since this "barn" was originally converted to be a dual use - living quarters for our landlord's disabled father, and office space for his business. So we have three open concept bedrooms and one common TV space upstairs for the kids. Good think they all get along so well together, or it wouldn't work.
Moss Roses are now on my list of must have flowers - they are so gorgeous, and attract tons of butterflies. I can see why they were your mom's favorite!
We have tons of squirrels and chipmunks who frequent the feeders, which is probably why that branch (that overlooks my feeders) is the favorite perch for birds of prey. I toss out bread heals and stale bagels to keep them away from the bird seed, but half the time, the Blue Jays beat them to it! 😂
And yes, as I mentioned in a different comment above, our landlady spoils the hummingbirds with her feeder, so they return the favor by being friendly. I certainly won't complain!
Thanks so much, Denise, and hope you have an amazing weekend! 🤗
Oh yes! You are so lucky and is it okay if I envy you just a tiny bit?
😊
I recognised the rose moss, we called them 9 o'clock flower because its common here they open around 9am and closed back in the afternoon, funny right... haha
That's a wicked cool name for them, @roselifecoach! Too funny! 😊
Hahaha... Sure is!
I don't mind your archives at all!! Beautiful photos!! I would've thought that was a baby hawk but (wow) not a full grown adult..pretty cool. Lovely flowers and pretty birds but that squirrel is too darn cute..lol! 💖
Thanks so much, @deerjay! I was surprised too that it was an adult - in fact, I think I asked him (the raptor expert) to ID this "juvenile" hawk, but he said it was an adult. Something to do with the feathers.... or something...can you tell it's been a few years...LOL! Appreciate you stopping by. 😊 🤗
You are welcome @traciyork! 💞
