What is Your Favourite SteemIt Alternative to post on the STEEM Network?

Hello everyone!

This post will serve a triple purpose:

1 - To let new users know there are alternative interfaces to SteemIt.com to post on the STEEM Network;
2 - To advertise some of the available alternatives;
3 - To check what are the favourite interfaces used by my followers;

Last week SteemIt made the news regarding the banning of The Dark Overlord's accounts from Facebook and Twiter. The group decided to post the same information on SteemIt.com.

On a sad but not unsurprising twist, @thedarkoverlord's account was banned from Steemit after just 3 days, thanks to @ned and all the other SteemIt.com owners, who keep dumping their STEEM on the Markets.

However, they cannot remove the information from the Blockchain itself. They can ban people from SteemIt.com but those people can keep using STEEM by other means, such as Busy.org, eSteem, Partiko, 1Ramp...

This case demonstrates that SteemIt.com is following the same political agenda as Facebook and Twitter, which goes against the main reason most of us joined Steem in the first place.

We wanted a platform free of censorship, where the community as a whole would be the only entity deciding what's valuable or not.

We don't want a private company (SteemIt Inc) controlling and dictating the rules here.

In my opinion, it's up to all of us to take the power back. @ned and other STEEM founders are selling their STEEM? Great, we will buy it and distribute the power among all the users.

You can't or don't want to buy STEEM? Don't worry. You can join the revolution, too, by using alternative interfaces to post your content.

I'll leave a few links here to the SteemIt.com alternatives I know about:

  • Busy: Very slick and cool Web Based alternative;
  • SteemPeak: Another Web Based alternative;
  • Steeve: Yet another Web Based alternative which ranks posts discounting Bot votes;
  • 1Ramp: Alternative available for Android and Web Browser;
  • eSteem: Native app, available for iOS, Android, Windows, Mac and Linux;
  • Partiko: Mobile app, available for iOS and Android;
  • NTopaz: Web Based alternative for Artists;
  • TripSteem: Web Based alternative for Travellers;
  • DTube: Web Based YouTube alternative for the STEEM Network;
  • DSound: Web Based alternative for Musicians, Poets, PodCasters...;
  • SteepShot: Alternative for Photography available for iOS, Android and Web Browser;
  • Tasteem: Web Based alternative for sharing restaurant reviews on the STEEM Network;
  • Let's Eat: Android App for sharing restaurant reviews on the STEEM Network;
  • DPoll: Web Based alternative for creating Polls on the STEEM Network;
  • Musing: Web Based alternative for Making and Answering Questions on the STEEM Network;
  • SteemHunt: Web Based alternative for Finding and Ranking New Products on the STEEM Network;
  • Fundition: Crowdfunding and collaboration platform on the STEEM Network;
  • SteemPress: WordPress plugin that connects any blog to the STEEM Network;
  • DLike: Share any URL to the STEEM Network;
  • ActiFit: Share your daily activity and exercise through iOS and Android;

To check out more STEEM based projects head to State of The ÐApps.

To conclude, I believe we need to disconnect the SteemIt.com interface and SteemIt Inc Corporation from the STEEM Network. That will require a bit of effort from all of us, but I believe we can do it.

Now... for the Poll. What is your favourite alternative to SteemIt.com?

Nice overview of steem blockchain sites, @trincowski. As most of us I have started with @steemit and then @busy.org. I have tried some other apps as well, but I guess Steemit is still my favorite one. Some of the apps from your list are new for me, so I will check them out.

If Steemit people are dumping Steem, it can mean one of the two things or both: they want to cash in on their success or just don't trust the blockchain enough. I just hope they don't have the plan to shut down Steemit. I know there are many alternatives, but I think it's still the core of the blockchain.

Hello @trincowski! Good and concise post you got here! I agree with you at 100%! If the big whales and founders start selling their Steem, We'll buy it! So I believe the comunity is able to keep the steem running!

Alternatives that I use to interact on the steem network?

As everyone's probably did, I started with the steemit.com platform!
Then I discovered @Busy and I could never stop using it. Because it's a more social network facebook style interface, I think that it makes things more intuitive!
Now I'm starting to discover @partiko!
And what an amazing experience! I would also recommend you to check steampeak, it has a lot of information under the tools tab!

Besides I have been an active user on #actifit!

Thanks, again.

I believe every Steem front end would censor child pornography and rightly so. It might even get erased from the blockchain by the decision of a supermajority of the witnesses. Documents like this, illegally obtained by criminals only for the purposes of profiting them or not, should not be erased from the blockchain and I don't think they ever will. No reason for anyone to get worked up.

You're right. Even so, I think most people would be flagging that kind of content anyway.

Thanks for your visit. If you can, please login at DPoll to submit your vote.

Given the current FUD I will take a look through the list. I have been reluctant to use Steemconnect or Busy etc as they have a secrecy about them (they don't even mention who they are or are located or have a way to reach them on their websites). Hoping maybe one of the other interfaces you list understands that many would want to know this before handing their keys over through logins.

Thank you

As far as I know, SteemConnect was developed in partnership with Steem's main developers and it seems pretty safe. I never had a problem with it.

Voted for DTube.

I really love this post and thank you so much for raising awareness about this issue.
Dtube is going to be my favorite alternative!

Yeah, I already noticed that. 😉

@esteem is my favourite dapp alt for posting in this network.
Well, I love it because it really supports the users and upvote their posts if they are of good quality.
I use to get 6% on most of my posts and it's about 0.7$ (including @good-karma vote, he helps all the users who get vote from the esteem. I really appreciate his wise work.)

Also, new 2.0 update version is launched on app markets and it is feally cool. I m just started to using it the UI Is awesome.

Hi
Thanks for the information regarding the apps. I have found the post and responses very useful, I have been using steemit for quite a while, outside of observing others use them I am pretty unfamiliar with the alternatives. I have been curious about Partiko, I have read good things and am thinking of giving it a go.

I think this is potentially 2 posts. I see that you reference it as triple, although those 3 things all relate to the use of alternate interfaces to access the blockchain.
The second issue is about banning an account and the concept of decentralised systems, censorship etc.
I do appreciate the information shared regarding alternatives and I see that your response to banning an account is to go elsewhere.
The post seems to be a response to this account ban which is referenced but not expanded on, and some responses in the comments have touched on the issues around that account and the context. I understand that your stance is regardless of content, posting and access should be decentralised, but perhaps as @blockurator stated, the legality of this is not so simple.

You are asking people to rate the userability of apps within reference of another issue, yet the poll itself does not relate to that issue.

I do appreciate the breadth of information shared regarding alternatives.
Thanks.

Thanks for your comment but I don't believe in that.

When I joined SteemIt, it was advertised as Censorship Resistant Social Network. If it isn't, they lied to us.

But if it is truly decentralised... then we can't start allowing countries like the US to dictate what can be posted or not.

Once we open that precedent, we will have to do the same for every other country on Earth.

Then what? We would have to follow the EU's Laws, China's Laws, Turkey's Law's, North Korea's Laws, Pakistan's Laws, India's Laws, Russia's Laws, Nigeria's Laws... you name it.

Suddenly, we'd be limited to post only on Saturday mornings, only about kittens and everything else would be banned.

Do you really want to open that precedent?

This aren't all alternatives, you can't compare apples with rice. Some of them only use the same fuel (Steem). A poll system isn't the same as a blogging system.

That depends on the kind of content you post.

Taking aside Fundition and Musing, the other 18 Dapps can be used for blogging.

I added those 2 merely as a bonus, as I think they're good projects, too.

Voted for SteemPeak.

I like SteemPeak, too, but at the end of the day I keep using Busy pretty much all the time. 😃

Voted for Musing.

Musing is very interesting but I admit I haven't used it that much.

Voted for Partiko.

So many Dapps for Android and none for Windows Phone. That's the main reason I keep sticking to Busy.

Windows phone is not that popular...
Sorry about that..

I'm not keen on Dpoll, so I'll just write a reply.

I prefer Steempeak, Actifit and also Tasteem.

However, I think you are being a touch harsh on the Steemit team. Steem is decentralised and difficult to shut down. However, Steemit is a company and as far as I know is based in the US, and therefore quite vulnerable to being raided or being otherwise forced to act. In a case like this, it is probably best that they stay clear, we don't want to lose the dev team over a worthless battle. It isn't a fight that Steemit needs to fight, as it can be still accessed via other Condensers....

As far as I am concerned that dev team is really dormant.

I see a lot of development being made on the STEEM Network and less than 1% is done by SteemIt Inc, if that much.

Sincerely, I appreciate all the good work they did on the development of the Blockchain ... but at this point I believe we don't need them anymore. If they are not focused enough on this platform, it's time for the community to take the lead from now on.

As an example, just look at the SteemIt interface. Right now, they have one of the weakest editors.

For a newbie, markup language is not very appealing. Almost every other app has buttons for Bold, Italics, Quotes, Links, Headings and so on.

Using eSteem and Busy, you simply select the text and press a few buttons to format your post.

Meanwhile, we've seen Zero improvement in SteemIt's interface for over a year. They keep talking about SMTs but always delaying its release.

The only thing that dev team has done in 2018 was the HF20 Fork and its release was a total f@ckup. 😑

New users are limited and unable to even reply to the comments in their own posts...

I see enough good developers around here that are doing a lot better and they are the only ones pushing the network forward. If we relied on SteemIt Inc, we wouldn't be any better than in 2017. 😶

Voted for Busy.

So, you're on my team, eh? Thanks for your answer.

I prefer busy.org on the pc and Partiko on mobile, but I also use eSteem :)

Posted using Partiko Android

Nice choices, Liliana! It looks like SteemIt is more popular among the new users but sooner or later we all end up going elsewhere. 😊

Novos projectos dentro do STEEM, espero?

Sim, óbvio que quando digo novos projetos me refiro a coisas tipo Busy.org e assim, sempre na blockchain do steem. Já não passo sem blogar ;)

Be sure to leave at least 50SP undelegated on your account.

So.... Thanks to myself, I guess. 😂

I use SteemPress and eSteem almost exclusively. Sometimes, Busy, but rarely. Quite frankly, if they've been engaged in illegal activities and using Steemit to distribute information obtained illegally, they should be banned. Otherwise, Steemit itself could be in legal trouble for being an accessory to crime. Freedom, nor decentralization, is carte blanche license to do whatever you want.

Well, they cannot ban them from the Blockchain itself and anyone is free to make their own interface for it. That doesn't do much difference in terms of legality, does it?

It's not illegal to create your own Dapp.

Voted for Partiko.

Thanks for stopping by and taking the time to answer the poll.

Wow, I don't know there are so many alternatives. I goes to use steampeak every now and then to access steemit. I use dtube everyday, but I can not stream the video smoothly, a lot of the time, I have download the video to watch it.

What is happening with DTube? You were posting quite regularly but lately you have been pretty silent...

Voted for DTube.

DTube is pretty cool, eh? I have used it a few times but I am too camera shy to make a vlog.

What happened to Elegance? I see that most artists have moved on to NTopaz. Have you tried that one?

We are developing something BIG! Stay Tunned

Yes, I have been checking NTopaz out. In fact, I may start today, some of my steemit friends are on there too.

I'm still a fan of busy since its still primarily a web-based platform so I can access it cross-device. I'm sure if they were to release a mobile app they would really start to dominate as dapp o

I believe the mobile app is in development right now. Let's wait and see.

Thanks for your comment.

I read something a while back during Steem fest that they were busy with an Android app! Will be very interesting! With all the drama going on with the great power down of 2019 a little good news is needed

Thank you for informing me that there is quite a large space for everyone in the steemit world. I am very thrilled to know about it since I was only confined to dtube, steemhunt, dtube and actifit. I never really expected this whole new world.

Wait, is that like a lyric in one of my favorite Disney movie? LOLZ

Yes, I am learning about new apps everyday, A year ago, we only had one or two! What a difference!

I also use busy on the web and sometimes Esteem those are very good. Yet I had to vote for the one I like best right now. Congrats @partiko

I'm testing the new eSteem that they posted about.. Pretty slick. I intend to try our Partiko as well..

do actifit posts, but only daily results..

So many options to choose from..

btw, the youtubes are !on point!

Wow, didnt know there are actiually so manny social dapps. Btw you're also missing travelfeed dappp used by travelers :)

That one is still in early stages. The site didn't even open when I tried it, I opted to leave it out.
