It was on the eve of Christmas, the capital town was agog with excitement. The Paradise, a musical group was coming. No one wanted to miss the opportunity of seeing a group that had cast a spell on the people with their supper hit song, "All the way".

The song almost turned into a national hymn on the lips of all and sundry, including primary school pupils who were carried away by the melody of the song.

Posters of The Paradise were all over town heralding the arrival of the wonder superstars that made up the group.

The organizers of the concert promised to make the whole environment of the show centre, a mini paradise on earth. Though it was going to be a night show, they boasted there would be no night there. Their special lightening and floodlights would dispel the darkness, they said.

One cannot fail to give them credit because the mixture of colourful lightings they put in place made the environment to be very impressive. The stage inside was something else. The various display of coloured lights shone from the ceiling, floor, walls and every corner. It was like a dreamland.

"Awesome!" You say. "Could this be the picture of paradise?" You ask.

The news of the decorations made people to come from far and wide to have a glimpse of the arena though, they were not allowed to go into the hall housing the main stage.

What was a melodrama came on the day of the actual event. The show was billed to start at 9:00 PM but, at 7:00 PM, news filtered in of a coup d'etat that had taken place. A military junta had toppled the government of the day, and imposed a dusk to dawn curfew in all the towns.

As expected, within a twinkling of an eye, the whole area was deserted. No human being was in sight. Everyone had hurriedly disappeared to find safety in their homes. This was how the show that would have been the talk of the town for many days came to an abrupt end and was aborted.

Hello @ubani. How sad the show did not go one. A wonderful buildup for the town. It's sad, but things like this do happen. Nicely done.

Thanks for sharing.
