I'm sitting and relaxing in my tent as gale-like winds try to blow me from Ft Stanton in New Mexico over to west Texas. Howling wind all night and day has everything covered in dust and the surrounding hills in a dusty haze.
Despite the nonstop wind during the night I slept well and woke early to a beautiful sunrise over the campground.
Fortunately I had boiled a thermos of hot water last night so I could enjoy hot keto coffee ☕️ before setting out on a loop of tomorrow's race course.
Typical eastern NM landscape - dry grassy hills with low scrubby juniper and plenty of fine dirt being blown around by the wind. I will be an easy course to follow going clockwise around a 4 mile or so loop. Down to a little creek then back up to the campground before repeating for 34 long hours. With all of the wind, single-track dirt trail and up and down hills I'll end up walking most of the hours.
Hopefully a 100 miles in the end before another long 10 plus hours driving home on Sunday.
