As Cardano (ADA) continues its push towards being the best blockchain around, many factors remain unclear on its practicality in the live world today. Don’t get me wrong, Cardano blockchain is superb and may only be rivaled with Eos (EOS) platform to replacing Bitcoin as the largest crypto in the world.
Earlier in the year in May, ADA traded above $0.37 USD and ranked as the sixth largest coin on Coinmarketcap listings. It has however been a downhill trend for the coin since then as it dropped to $0.07 USD today.
Cardano continues to suffer criticism on Reddit
The fall in price has corresponded with Cardano, along with the Foundation led by Charles Hoskinson, facing a backlash from most communities around. Similar to IOTA’s case after the board of directors’ fallout, Cardano has its supporters and critics but recently the latter seem to be overpowering the former.
One big issue the development team of Cardano is the high composition of ‘academics’ in the team. A Reddit user slammed the platform for having too much theoretic works rather than implementing the ideas on to the blockchain. Speaking on which is the better blockchain between EOS and Cardano, Memec0in remarked,
“Cardano (ADA) seems to be putting way too much effort into the theory and aesthetics side of things at the expense of having reasonable development progress and tackling pragmatic issues. It’s clear that it’s being built by academics rather than engineers, and if there’s one thing I know about academics it’s that they’re often satisfied with being “theoretically correct”, even if that results in a product that never gets built, or that no one uses.”
The overall opinion was centered on the use of Haskell language which is not as practical as using C/C++ to code the blockchain. With such comments going through will Cardano be able to fight on? Or is the backlash only coming from a section of FUDsters with no significant basis?

“The biggest example of this is that it’s written in Haskell, which is a programming language that academics are drawn to because it’s great for building small hobby projects, and learning about functional programming (which is itself an aesthetic paradigm that sees very little real world usage). The problem is that Haskell’s higher level design makes it anywhere from 2 to 10x less efficient than C/C++.” – Memec0in on Reddit
This was the statement given to explain the failure of Cardano’s base programming language, Haskell lacking practicality. As much as the statement was in comparison to EOS, which continues to show its superiority to most projects, Cardano is not far off. Cardano has continued to flourish in its platform development with the IOHK dev team working hard to keep the mainnet alive for instant and cheap transactions.
In the closing remarks, Memec0in explained that with Cardano having more expensive fees and slower transaction times than EOS, it may be hard for the coin to compete in the long run.
“The choice makes no sense to me considering that blockchain environments are primarily comprised of some of the most speed critical areas of computing: cryptography, networking, and CPU instruction processing (for the VM).”
