I recommend having a look at these films, which have been physically decaying in storage for more than 50 years while kept secret, and only now are being digitized and released to the public.
This is a pretty amazing revelation of some of some of the most devastating man made events the world has ever seen.

The fusion bomb aka Thermonuclear or Hydrogen bomb is like creating a little piece of the Sun on Earth for millionths of a sec. The video you have linked from the early 60's in the South Pacific would have been a H-bomb and the explosion in the picture is one hell of a display of released energy.
Amazing power indeed, we have mastered the "destruction of life" side of science, hopefully the "preservation of life" side of science will be just as amazing one day also, but that sure is a longer and harder road.
