Hola querida comunidad @ladiesofhive 🤍

Yo no crecí viendo competir a Ana Fidelia Quirot.

No exigirme perfección constante.

What Teaches Us to Rise Again… and What I Refuse to Normalize

Hello dear @ladiesofhive community

There are stories we do not need to have lived through in real time to feel close to.

Sometimes hearing someone talk about them, watching an interview years later, or discovering fragments of a person’s life is enough to leave a quiet mark on us.

1️⃣ About the person who inspired me the most

I did not grow up watching Ana Fidelia Quirot compete.

When her greatest athletic achievements happened, I had not even been born yet. But in Cuba, there are figures whose stories somehow remain present through documentaries, television programs, family conversations, and shared memories.

And I think that is what happened with me.

I learned about her story before I learned about her medals.

What impacted me most was not only seeing her become a world champion, but learning everything she went through after the accident that almost cost her life.

Hearing how she managed to compete again after something so devastating made me understand that true strength is not always about never breaking.

Sometimes it is about rebuilding yourself.

And doing so without turning pain into bitterness.

I think that was what inspired me most about her.

The way she kept moving forward without pretending to be invulnerable.

Because many times we believe strong people are those who never show exhaustion, fear, or fragility. But stories like hers remind us that there is also strength in rising again after going through very dark moments.

And honestly, I think that is a lesson I try to apply in my own life.

Not demanding constant perfection from myself.
Not feeling ashamed of difficult moments.
And understanding that continuing forward also matters, even when the path no longer looks as bright as before.

2️⃣ A social belief I consider harmful

There is one belief I see becoming too normalized: the idea that showing vulnerability is weakness.

Many people grow up feeling they must hide exhaustion, emotions, or even pain in order to appear strong in front of others.

And I think that creates emotionally exhausted generations.

People who know how to pretend they are fine… but do not know how to ask for help.

I try to protect younger people around me by speaking honestly with them. By helping them understand that feeling bad at times does not make them fragile or less valuable.

Because all of us go through difficult stages.

And learning to recognize them is also part of growing.

Personally, I try to resist that pressure by allowing myself to be human.

I do not always have clear answers.
I do not always feel strong.
And I believe accepting that has given me more peace than pretending to be perfect.

Maybe we need to stop admiring only those who never seem to fall… and start valuing those who find a way to rise again without completely losing themselves in the process.

Both questions made me think about something very similar: the stories that inspire us the most are not always the most perfect ones, but the most human ones.

Because sometimes what truly leaves a mark is not someone who never suffered… but someone who found a way to keep moving forward after pain.

Thank you for reading

This was such a wonderful reading that I had to go look up this olympian star with impressive track and field records. She is popularly referred to as the "carribean storm" and I think that's a powerful way of describing someone who has made impact.

Women like Ana inspire! They set the precedent for younger ones who need to hear real stories of perseverance to move forward in their own lives, and I'm glad her life had lessons for you too. I hope you keep it all close to your heart, always.

I also wish for the entire world to embrace vulnerability as a strength because that will help our society produce more emotionally balanced adults. Fingers crossed. Thank you for writing with us. Have a lovely week ahead!

PS: I did respond a few days back, but wasn't quick to realize Ecency didn't reflect that due to my network issues, I believe. My apologies. All the same, I'm happy you made a beautiful post that couldn't be forgotten.🙂

Thank you so much for your kind words

It truly made me happy to know that the post inspired you to learn more about Ana Fidelia. In Cuba, many of us grew up hearing her story not only because of her athletic achievements, but because of the strength with which she managed to rise again after such difficult moments. I think that was exactly what impacted me the most about her.

I also deeply agree with what you said about vulnerability. Sometimes society teaches us to hide too much of what we feel in order to appear strong, and in the end that often leaves emotionally exhausted people behind. Hopefully, little by little, we can learn to see sensitivity and emotional honesty as something valuable rather than a weakness.

And please don’t worry about the delayed reply 😊 Ecency sometimes surprises all of us with those things. In fact, I’m really glad you came back because your comment truly meant a lot to me.

Thank you again for reading so carefully and for your beautiful words 🌷

I wish you a wonderful week as well.
