Just like many others ( @greendeliverence , @Karinxxl , @exyle ) I started to play @steemmonsters today.
I had read already a lot about it (not the rules but the game and cards etc.) but didn't really paid any attention to it.... So today I bought a starterpack and a have won my first boosterpacks.
I am still not very sure what I am really doing because you have to know all the strength and perks of all the different cards, but @steemit and @steemmonsters are my friend when it comes to getting some tips and help.
The best tip from me is Just do it Start playing it, get to know the cards and read all you can :)
I am still in the middle of figuring out the season play, because the season for now has ended. But we will find out :)

Maybe I should start. Like everything I think about it for a while before jumping in. Actually that is a lie sometimes I just jump without thinking. I seriously don't think I have the time for steam Monsters as well.

Agreed, I've noticed it cost some time :)
There are some big changes coming for the next season anyway, so it is best just to get the feel for the game and then wait to see how they change it. The play style you are seeing now is going to be changed once they start the new system. It is going to be better though. I am super excited to see that you made it into the game. It is a really great way to pass some free time and to earn some money if you are looking to sell cards on the market.
I still not really feeling the game hahaha, but that's more because I am still trying to find out which cards do exactly what :)
