Last Saturday, I broke a promise I made to myself: I swore I’d never go hiking again... and yet, here I am, telling the story of how I woke up at 2 a.m. to do exactly that. 😅

I had read somewhere that the trail to Pico da Cabeça de Formiga, in Serra da Saudade (right on the border between Juiz de Fora and Lima Duarte), was “pretty chill” — just 1.5 km and about an hour of walking. Was I fooled? Maybe. But I went anyway. It was me, my boyfriend, two of his cousins, and one of their girlfriends. We left home at 3:30 a.m. and got there at 4:38.

The trail had two steeper parts, but overall it was manageable. We reached the top at 5:40 — still dark, but the sky was starting to lighten. Our plan was to watch the sunrise... but the weather had other ideas. A thick fog quickly rolled in, and within minutes, everything around us was white. It felt like one of those movie scenes where people die, arrive in heaven, and meet God — always played by Morgan Freeman. Hahaha

Even without the sun, the view was beautiful, kind of mysterious, and we managed to get some great shots! We stayed up there until about 8 a.m., then hiked back down, stopped at a local bakery nearby, and made it home by 10:30 — mission accomplished, body tired, but heart full.

Who would've thought I'd do this again, right? But… it was worth it. And believe it or not, I’ve already agreed to go back — but only when we’re really sure there’ll be sun. 😄

This is my entry for the @PhotoFeed Contest, themed Landscape, in round 115.

Me iludi? Talvez.

Hello! Thank you very much for posting in the Worldmappin Community 😃.

We noticed that you included more than one PIN code in the post. This is not necessary and can lead to double pinning. If you are writing about a trip with different points of interest, it is advisable to indicate only one PIN of the most important place or central location.

Double pinning can lead to problems for our curation, so if you keep doing it we can not guarantee you to be considered for our daily Travel Digest.

We recommend that you obtain the code either from https://worldmappin.com/, or by selecting the location directly on the small map at the bottom of the text editor in the PeakD interface.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact our team on our Discord channel.

Cheers!
