I stopped by the Rhine near Rheinhausen today, mainly to take a look at the current water level. It is still unusually low, revealing parts of the riverbank that are normally hidden beneath the water.
The Rhine is showing a different side of itself right now.
I didn't know what operation micemeat was, but it's actually quite impressive: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Operation_Mincemeat. It's about a British deception on the Nazis. I am not interested enough by musicals to watch this though.

This charming little lake can be seen when exiting the 408 Expressway, eastbound, looping around towards Orange Avenue in Orlando, Florida (USA). The fountain in the lake is lovely, and downtown Orlando is a fascinating city! 😊

Durbach lies at the foot of the Black Forest and is one of the best-known wine villages in the Ortenau region. The steep vineyards shape the landscape around the village. Durbach is particularly famous for its Klingelberger, a Riesling with a long tradition in the region.
Winegrowing is also present throughout the village itself. An old wine press is a reminder of how grapes were processed in earlier times. Today, tradition and tourism go hand in hand: numerous wineries invite visitors to taste their wines, and there are several campsites for motorhome travellers.
For me, Durbach is a wonderful example of the Ortenau: wine, the Black Forest and Baden’s way of life, all in one place.

On our way to Bochum, we made a stop here for the night. The campsite is clean, well frequented and located directly between the Moselle, a main road and the railway line.
It can therefore be a little noisy, but that doesn’t bother me. For €5 per night, the site offers a good basic setup. There is a service point for fresh water and waste disposal. TV reception and 4G were both good.
One small catch: the parking meter only accepts coins.
Getting stuck behind a freight train can be annoying, but it's really cool to see the different train cars. They move so much freight around, it's insane to think about. Grain, packages, cattle, people, so much!
Most people know about the Chicago Riverwalk, but not the Southbank Riverwalk. It's much smaller but still a few things to see(the apartments/condos around there mostly). I've mostly seen locals on this path rather than tourists though, lots of people love to walk their dogs here.
Yesterday I was back in Heidelberg, a city where I once lived. Much has changed, while some things still feel surprisingly familiar. These photos were taken around Bismarckplatz, where the Old Town begins.
What caught my attention, though, was a small memorial stone near the former women’s clinic. During my years in Heidelberg, I walked this route countless times – yet somehow I never noticed it.
Sometimes you have to look at a familiar place with different eyes to discover something that was there all along.
Today we’re exploring the southern Black Forest. Our first stop is the motorhome campsite in Bernau-Dorf. After a short hike, we stopped for a meal at the Bergblick restaurant.
The food was delicious, and it was a perfect way to round off our first little adventure.
Opened in May 2023 after nine months of construction, the Black Forest Line suspension bridge spans 450 metres across the valley. The walkway is 1.20 metres wide and hangs 120 metres above the ground.
Today I crossed it myself. Getting to the other side was quite a wobbly affair – especially when the bridge started moving beneath my feet. 😉
Afterwards, we visited the nearby Todtnau Waterfalls, which made a great finish to the day.
A recreation area with several lakes where you can go sailing, diving, or explore the water by SUP. Or simply go for a swim. At 36°C, it’s a really pleasant way to cool off. 😎

Die Eremitage in Waghäusel entstand im 18. Jahrhundert als Rückzugs- und Lustschloss. Ein Ort für höfische Gesellschaft, Spaziergänge und ein wenig Abstand vom Alltag.
Heute ist sie vor allem ein schönes Stück Geschichte direkt vor der Haustür – und manchmal fährt man einfach daran vorbei und hält kurz an.
