AKON IS PLANNING A CRYPTOCITY IN AFRICA 🇿🇦

in #blog6 years ago

It has been a while since Akon’s last song hit the charts.

Akon, 45, is more recognized as a businessman than a musician these days. If you’re wondering what he’s been up to well, it’s quite surprising and probably not what you’d expect.

While some famous artists might be on a quest for their next big hit, Akon is on a different kind of quest, which is to create the world’s first city-based on digital currency 100% in what’s being called a “real-life Wakanda”.

Rapper Akon is building a new futuristic Crypto city in Senegal, which will trade solely in his own cryptocurrency called AKoin. According to its official website (https://www.akoin.io/), his futuristic city will be built on a 2,000-acre land gifted to him by Macky Sall, the President of Senegal. This futuristic city will be a 5-minute drive from Senegal's new international airport. The US-born singer, who is of Senegalese descent says.

Plans to launch the Akoin

While the city project is still under development, AKoin is expected to launch in early July. The singer whose real name is Aliaume Thiam disclosed plans for the city and his cryptocurrency at a panel during the Cannes Lions festival of creativity.

Akon’s cryptocity would revolve around the cryptocurrency called AKoin, the city is located just outside of the Senegalese capital, Dakar. Users would purchase goods with AKoin right from their smartphones, which in theory would stimulate micro-exchanges and financial stability. When asked at the Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity how these apps would work in detail. Akon admitted that he’s concentrating more on the big picture than the details.

He said, “I come up with concepts and let the nerds figure the details out.”

Senegal's growth is astonishing

Senegal might be the best choice for a Crypto City, as it has been racing into the Digital Age. In 2017, a new international airport was built which cost about €650 million, with a brand new express train and motorway. In 2013, just about 23% of Senegalese citizens owned a smartphone, which has now increased to 80% in 2018.

According to the AKoin website, the Akon Crypto City is already in development. Macky Sall, the Senegalese president, gave Akon two thousand acres of land outside Dakar so this futuristic city could come sooner than we think.
