Whenever someone asks me about my relationship status, I say I'm single and they look at me in a strange way. However, if I had a choice, every time I would pick to stay single instead of being in a relationship. To be honest, I have never dated anyone because I have never fallen in love. But I have seen my friends in relationships and acknowledged many new things from them.
Well, I don't need to personally experience it to understand, because it's not some rocket science. It's very simple and I already have discovered what I want from life. For the past 2 years I have realized what I really need in life is not a relationship, because it's not something I need to be happy or feel fulfilled.
I know people often think that if someone is staying single is because of a past experience or they want freedom. First of all, I don't believe that a partner is someone who can steal my freedom. Because I will never give anyone the power to control my life, my decisions will be my own or my future. If I was in a relationship with someone the only real difference would be that another person becomes part of my routine.
My life would remain the same as it was before. My aim in life, ethics, and individuality would remain the same. Nothing would change so I don't think it's related to freedom at all. If someone liked me they must have known everything about me so why they would want me to change in the first place? And why would I let someone enter my life when they don't like me for being who I am?
I have seen people only wants to be in a relationships because they want someone to support them in old age or because they want to continue their family lineage. I am not saying these desires are wrong, but I think that these are some selfish reasons once it becomes the main motivation to be with someone.
Also, I have seen that society often makes us believe that we can never live alone and we are supposed to be with a life partner not our family. They taught us from childhood that having a love life, getting married and having kids are very necessary steps in life. If someone is unable to do that then they are always criticized by the society. So someone like me who chooses a different path, people often think that we are incomplete. And some people told me that I'll change my mind when I grow up.
But I don't think that will ever happen, because I don't have any silly reasons to stay single. All of my reasons are valid. I think people enjoys criticizing others because they have been following the same lifestyle for decades and they expect other people to do the same. So, they consider it as a challenge and don't see it as a normal thing. I find it very funny that even if they are not happy with their married life even after having children, they still want others to lead the same life as them.
I believe people has the capability of living alone. A person doesn't need anybody to feel joy. They can enjoy their own company, and find purpose without a romantic relationship. There's a misconception that happiness will come if only they have a partner, I think the opposite happiness can be achieved by being content with yourself.
In my point of view, a relationship is about two people who genuinely loves each other and sincerely wants to spend their lives together and that's their main goal to live peacefully together. Unfortunately nowadays, relationships are built on social pressure because as we grow old, everyone in our surroundings wants to see us with a partner.
I have more valid reasons but I can not finish this topic in just one post, haha. So yeah, I do not see myself dating or getting married in the future. I want to live the life in solitude because I find peace in living alone.
