The Moustache Farmer: A different kind of animal rescue

in #animals4 years ago

The guy doesn't farm mustaches and he didn't really see himself getting involved in the rescue game but there he is and he has found his calling in life because of it. I get to experience every day the joy that comes along with helping animals that are in need and the great satisfaction that comes from helping a creature that isn't able to take care of itself. It's more rewarding than money and I think the Moustache Farmer understands this"

Joar grew up on a farm as a kid and he developed a strong relationship with cows during that time in particular a calf that later turned into a cow called "Rexi" that he says was his best buddy on the farm even though he had dogs, cats, chickens, ducks, goats, and other animals to tend to. It was as a young boy that he determined that cows were his "pet of choice."

Like many children who grow up on farms, Joar was eager to join city life as early as possible and ended up leaving the small farm in Germany to carry on to urban life in Cologne and Berlin.. although this was great for him professionally, he never truly lost the urge to live the life in nature and to be around animals.

He now runs an animal rescue of a different sort and one that I only recently found out that there is a need for. An animal rescue for cows. I don't understand how a cow can find itself in this predicament and I didn't look into it. In my mind it seems as though a cow would always have an owner simply because it can produce something useful like milk or it's own body for meat. This is not the way that Joar looks at them and he now has a farm that he wants to expand to take on new rescues.

He now takes on all manner of livestock into his farm at the non-profit animal shelter Lebenshof Odenwald. Joar has also adopted a plant-based lifestyle which is something that I definitely admire, but have not yet adapted into my own life. I do feel bad about that sometimes and I do my part but for now I think that I am doing more for the animal world by running an animal sanctuary than the average vegan does.

The Moustache Farmer doesn't do a whole lot of promoting himself or the farm that he works for but recently the very popular site The Dodo featured his story and he probably is going to have a lot more people looking his direction now. I wish they would do a story on us!

He has many entertaining videos and photos on his Instagram which can be found here also his primary website can be found here but mostly that site just tries to redirect you to his IG.

The reason that I did this writeup is because it is nice to see people out there helping animals, regardless of what kind of animal they are referring to. I didn't know that there was a need for the type of organization that he is involved in, and I am happy that it exists even if it is really far from me and something that I am very unlikely to ever be able to visit.

Cows are no less of an animal compared to dogs or cat's infact they can be extremely loving which is why it's very horrendous what humans do to such animals for the sake of meat and milk and so it's no wonder that Joar enjoyed the company of such a animals, we need many more to see what Joar sees in these creatures.
