I recall a moment, Saturday morning of the 2019 Baltimore Comic-Con, I sat and dabbled ...

in #appics4 years ago

... with making some sketch cards as Sarah & Dave hung out with me at the “I Thought It Would Be Zombies...” table and glanced over occasionally. As I erased the majority of what was seemingly a perfectly good sketch and began anew, I heard the murmurs beside me. “Did he just erase that?” ... “Yup.” And I chuckled. That’s just how I roll!!! I’m reworking the issue #1 cover now and I’m happy with how it’s turning out and the extra time spent, part of the many revisions to issue #1 before going for a wider release. I know all the reasons I shouldn’t be hung up on perfectionism, and to an extent I agree... but then the little perfectionist devil on my shoulder chimes in with, “F*ck it! Sack up and just work harder!” and I acquiesce because I’m passive and that little bastard scares me a bit. I shared an earlier work in progress shot of this cover at the start of the weekend on one of those other social networks 🤭, but here it is a bit further along for the APPICS crew to view! Look for a meatier update blog post on Steem later this week! Until then, take care... and let me know how you deal with perfectionism!

Here’s a quick comparison for those reading on Steem... (doesn’t show in the Appics app!)... my draftsmanship is coming out so much better on the new attempt... I’m learning more patience...

Yep. Huge difference! This new one is definitely a killer!

I would see each of them in a different setting. The second one could very well be part of a car chase scene but makes a dynamic cover!

I've been battling with myself about reworking my first pages. I don't think I'll go as far as starting over new. But maybe tweaking some lines, dialogue and changing the font would be great.

Thanks, glad you think so!

You’ve got such a body of work and are so far along I certainly wouldn’t expect redraws on early pages. I really don’t mind seeing an artist improve and evolve over the course of a series, but since I’m at the outset I just want my “baseline” to be a bit stronger.

Redoing some dialog, lettering, etc. sounds totally reasonable before heading to a print compilation though.
