"When the Lord saw that Leah was unloved..." ~ Genesis 29:31a
There was no sparkle in Leah's eyes. She was not the favored one. Jacob did not love her. And God noticed.
"Surely my husband will love me now." ~ Gen 29: 32b
First son and she waited for love.
"Because the Lord heard that I am not loved." ~ Gen 29: 33b
Second son and she hoped for love.
"Now at last my husband will become attached to me." ~ Gen 29: 34b
Third son and she still sought love from a weak man.

Through three sons, Leah desperately trying to be loved and accepted by her husband. Each birth was shadowed by grief from unrequited love. Across 4 millennia, we can feel Leah's hope sinking.

Sadly we find no recorded response from Jacob. Not even one word.

And when the fourth son arrived, Leah finally turned to God.

"This time I will praise the Lord" and she named her son Judah. ~ Gen 29: 35b
After years of discouragement, Leah found the path of contentment, that God is enough. She longed for love but God gave her more. God saw. God heard. God blessed. God loved Leah.
"For it is clear that our Lord Jesus descended from Judah..." ~ Hebrews 7:14a
Two thousand years after Leah lived, she was chosen to be in the lineage of Christ. From the lineage of this unloved woman, came the Messiah.
