My Talkshow Experience Thus Far

in #art4 years ago (edited)

This is a sharing on the talkshow that I hosted name, Monday Orange Talkshow. Monday Orange Talkshow is an art-oriented talk show hosted by Kim Zhao Wei with people from all parts of the world with different ages come and share their life experience and knowledge about how they use arts to change or add some colours to their life.

This will be a weekly talk show where Go Doodle will invite different guests to have casual sharing. Well, we always take Monday is BLUE, now we offer a citrus rich, sour and sweet Monday ORANGE to freshen you up!

Thanks to Wei Jun Tan for yesterday's amazing sharing with us about some tips about photography. Here is a summary of our coffee talk:

1. A simple shot = experience of taking different failed shots + countless trip to different places and spots to get the right feel of the place + photoshopping equipment that may come in costly + knowledge about lighting, composition

There is a lot of hard work behind the scene that we usually neglected. Thus, it is crucial for us to understand the process before we judge the works of every artist we encounter. In many cases, I personally experience the misjudgement of people towards art pieces or design which deemed to be "cheap" and "nothing special". Yet, it is important for the artist to listen to what the client wanted to say or express. This is how good communication comes in to help the art creation process.

2. It takes great patience to create a masterpiece, hence we need to remember not to rush when it comes to creativity.

Nothing can be rushed especially in the creative field. We can have a quick sketch or shot but that also will take us countless practice before we can do the quick but right shot or sketch. Thus, a reminder to ourselves that a solid foundation is essential for us to be a master. Nothing comes easy and free.

3. Copying masters' work is one way for beginners to pick up quickly. Yet, do note that the process is the most important part and not the outcome. From the process, it is where we can build our foundation and create our own identity through the experience.

Learning from the master like an apprentice is a way to go, especially in the creative art industry. It is not like the engineering field where we can learn through numbers and facts. Plus, art requires a lot of exposure like life experience, knowledge about different skills and methods, vocabulary and many more! Thus, copying from the master is not just getting the same outcome as the master but to understand how can we get from 0 to a master piece. By mastering the process, then only we are on our way to becoming one.

4. Serendipity is something that always keeps creative and curious people going. You never know what you will find along the way, but definitely something fulfilling!

This is something really interesting to talk about. As long as you know that the path is right for you and will somehow be valuable to you by referring to some successful figures you look up to, then do be persistent and stay on the track. By continuing the marathon, we will definitely meet serendipity that would awe us and create different AHA and milestone for us.

5. Find your own calling and position yourself well. Do not just follow suit and lose your real purpose of doing something.

Know who you are and what you really want. Of course, we may not know that well in the first place, so just keep try and making mistakes until we get to one.
