A meteorite is falling from the black sky towards an abstract cityscape made of overlapping rectangles with white outlines. In the front of the image on the right side, there is an alien looking creature with features resembling those of a tuskless elephant wearing a white hooded robe. An ancient god perhaps? The creature Is facing left towards the city with a melancholic look in its eyes.

The feeling is heavy of awaiting encounter you’re not really looking forward to, as the title suggests. In the most basic level in my mind, it is a representation of the exhausting battle repeating between good and evil or perhaps chaos and order. Though I don’t consider these interchangeable and this is definitely symbolist piece.
Things have been good for a long time, progress has been made but now an inevitable change is coming, and all that has been built is now threatened to be wiped out. The buildings of the city are orderly but relatively fragile creations suggested by the one-pixel wide outlines. The figure is the most worked on part, the robe taking the longest. Whilst I was making it I was questioning myself of the point of putting so much effort into that specific part, but it would later make sense to me- as it is often the case with my process. For me the white robe here represents wisdom and peace. Something that can indeed take a long time to develop. The elephant, which the creature kind of looks like, can also be a symbol of good, ancient wisdom and destroyer of evil. The meteorite a powerful potentially destructive force. A working title for this piece was actually Apophis, Greek name for what is an actual meteorite named after Egyptian god of evil Apep, which has a slight chance of hitting earth in the future. It is an interesting event to speculate on but for me this is about the feeling and symbols to contemplate.
