Happy Birthday to us (we turned 3!)

in #aseanhive3 years ago

Krabi Animal Welfare turned 3 years old this week and although the past year has been very tough for us due to tourism being completely eliminated to Covid, we have been doing as well as we can and are very hopeful about our ability to continue to ease the pain and suffering of the stray animal population that exists in Krabi province.

Since 2017 we have helped thousands of dogs and cats with vaccinations, much needed medical attention from getting struck by cars, the cleaning and treating of wounds that had already become badly infected, and most importantly with sterilization efforts to help slow the biggest problem that exists with any stray animal problem in the world: Excessive reproduction.

Our mission began 3 years ago and honestly, when we started it we didn't have much faith ourselves that it was ever going to extend beyond just a few of us helping out where we could. In those three years we have registered as an official non-profit charity in 2 countries as well as procured facilities and vehicles that are very necessary for our operations. We never saw it getting this big and and delighted that it it did despite the fact that we make exactly zero money off of this - which is kind of, you know, what a charity is supposed to be like.

Of course none of this would be possible without the tireless efforts of our volunteers both local and abroad as well as those who have offered to do fundraising for us back in the U.K. On a purely personal note I find it very touching that people would be willing to donate to our organization back in the U.K. since many of those folks have probably not only never been to Krabi, but don't even know what / where it is.

You might be one of the people that doesn't know what / where Krabi is and that is perfectly ok. Before I visited this country many years ago I didn't know what it was either. However, we are very thankful for all of the assistance that we have received over the years via financial contributions as well as the continued volunteer work that is done by the many people that stop by to help out as much as possible.

If you are unable to assist us in any way that is also fine but I still implore you to look around where you happen to be in the world and see how it is that you can help out the stray animal population in your own region. This could be as simple as buying a little bit of food for that skinny pup that you see hanging out in a field near your house. A little bit of compassion goes a long way and once you go down that path, you always find that you want to go further. For me it has been the most rewarding experience of my life and one that I will continue to do forever - even if K.A.W. eventually has to shut its doors due to inability to secure funding.

We made it 3 years, and here's to us making it another 1, 3, or even 30 years.
