#BeerSaturday 249! Let us get back to @peakd with shorties and new features from old friends.

I became a beer blogger naturally due to years I have spent brewing for myself, working with breweries on their technology and marketing, and the decades spent imbibing. Hence, the self-decreed title of the #Blockchain #Beerologist and I am cranking up the Beerology game this year.

For week 249, we hit the studio with a few shorties, discover a new brewery and bring home some more revenge.

Shorty of the Week

IMG_3826.jpg

One #beerologist tactic I like to pass along is that a few shorties in the fridge make for a little variety and a little beer snack when a whole pint is too much. This week, I find another use for the versatile shorty as it is also great to bring a string of shorties to the studio to enjoy while you are getting the old girl set up and swapping stories. Jobsite Brewing https://www.jobsitebrewing.ca/ is again my shortie of choice as a new NEIPA from a NEIPA specialist is always an adventure. Dovetail Hazy Pale Ale combines 2 of my favourite IPA hops in Citra for citrus and Idaho 7 for that dry and substantial pine finish. Made for some great conversation too.

Dovetail https://www.jobsitebrewing.ca/buybeer/light-duty-pale-ale-2anl8 tasted even better in the branded glass Beerologists are often gifted in order to properly review a beer. The side label reveals even more reasons to enjoy this brew as it is a recipe from a blend of hops from a female brew team. Not only that, part of the proceeds from this beer are donated to support women in the brewing industry. Brewing industry can be a bit of a sausage party anyhow so more donuts will make it even better.

Dead Man's Switch

IMG_3737.jpg

I can't recall ever reviewing Lake of the Woods Brewing Company https://www.lowbrewco.com/on the sweet hops before now. Not nice to say but this one caught my eye because of the drab colours and plain text label but it was the NEW ENGLAND IPA that gave me pause. All you have to do in order to earn a spot in my basket is be a regional IPA I haven't tasted yet. Thumbs up!

Dead Man's Switch New England IPA https://shopontario.lowbrewco.com/collections/beer/products/dead-mans-switch-4-pack is named after 3 events you might not have heard of in a town you will likely never go. The Citra and Amarillo hop combination reminds me of the shortie of the week with the citrussy paired with the dry and piney. Hazy and a bit brooding, this is a legitimate IPA and I will have to purchase it again to give it a fair shake.

I do appreciate how the clothes pin is prominently at the top of the label, but its insignificance is not revealed until the last line of the side label.

Tesla's Revenge IPA

IMG_3740.jpg

I am glad to have added a client in the town 20 minutes away so I can visit Broken Rail Brewing https://brokenrailbrewing.ca/ more often. This place has been open a year or 2 and is just getting its feet underneath it in a well-populated regional craft beer market. They are the only brewery in town so local has got to be key for survival but it will be regional that they will have to tackle to scale up. I do like visiting and seem to find some fun IPA variations every time I go.

Local lore claims that Thomas Edison lived here for a while and must have contributed to his genius and the direct current which powers so much of the world. Tesla was his frienemy and was also a fine 80s rock band so I have time for Tesla's Revenge IPA https://brokenrailbrewing.ca/ Consistently good and my standard reward when I come home from St. Marys with some beer for the fridge. Looks like they are dabbling in sours and APAs so hopefully I will be able to bring some to review after my next business visit there.
