These figures are given by the Cambridge Center for Alternative Finance (CCAF). According to the report, bitcoin mining emits 48.35 million tons of carbon dioxide per year.
Countries such as Nepal and the Central African Republic have roughly the same figures. It's also half that of the gold mining industry (100.4 million tons).
The CCAF notes that as of September 21, the annual estimate of greenhouse gas emissions from bitcoin mining is down 14.1% from 2021.
