This Is A Mature Power

in #blog12 days ago

A deliberate, purposeful communication choice made after choosing or after considering the context, potential outcomes and the potential long-term impact. And this is a mature power move, if you will.

This is a real power move when you can give a strategic response in a difficult interaction with someone because a lot of people don't have the ability to do that.

And it's about responding from wisdom rather than the wounds and the hurt feelings that you've had. We've all heard the saying that hurt people hurt people. And we don't want to be the ones that perpetuate that idea.

Just because we've been hurt in the past doesn't mean that we can't grow and learn how to provide strategic responses when people say things to us or do things to us. And the idea of public attack or even retaliation is an immediate, emotionally driven reaction delivered in front of others, often to defend ego or to win rather than resolving the challenge. And this can either be physical or verbal.

And we're focusing on the verbal aspect more so today, the communication side of it verbally. But keep that in mind. And we're looking at this as it pertains to the public interactions, those public attacks or retaliation that we may find ourselves initiating in response to something that someone has said or done.

What are some of the strategic responses that you could potentially give when you think about this? You can ask for a private conversation to talk about what you're concerned about, pausing to fact check before you respond to the criticism or and simply addressing the behavior, but not attacking the person. You attack the problem, not the person or address the problem, not the person. And those are things that we can do some of the some of the many things that we could do.
