One Year On: #Jibana...

The year was 2017 and I wasn't on Twitter!!!!

2018???? That's a story for another day.

“You’re not on twitter? SERIOUSLY?!!!!” They ask.

“Dead Serious.” And suddenly I’m ancient, an outcast, a recluse…I think I’m just misunderstood.

It’s a little strange for little Jibana me to purposely avoid a digital communication spectrum that has single-handedly transformed the way people converse and operate. But that’s just me. After all, I’m a plain old Jibana and proud of it.

I’m a Jibana, a “rare species” that’s supposedly about to be extinct and soon to be in a museum somewhere. I am a very slow and steady person. I eat slow, I poop slow, I work slow, I see things in slow-motion, I do things very slowly…even when I’m rushing, I’m slow! Lol! You dig how “fast” I grasp concepts?

A Jibana, in this context, is used to imply to the Non-Techie/Non-Technical being, which is what the Tech World refers to someone who is unversed and uninterested in technical matters, especially in computers and electronics.

There’s nothing bad in particular in being a Jibana. It just means that, in this big old technological world, you will be thoroughly disadvantaged and will have to make up big time for your lack of technological skills.

So here I stand, caught between a rock and hashtag (literally), unwilling to bite the bullet and succumb to the “Techie-Lifestyle”, yet equally intrigued by the unavoidable fusion of technology and finance. Banking’s Uber moment.

I’m obviously 100% Jibana, but I can spot the waves of disruption coming and would love to ride them to success. However, riding the waves of disruptive technologies is easier said than done. It’s a daunting task and sometimes made difficult by the Techie establishment, with their nerdy behavior and unexplainable sense for weird humor.

This is the reason for Jibana Culture. A fantastical tribe of “Non-Techies” who want to learn and profit from the ongoing FinTech Revolution. A chance to break down the Techie mumbo jumbo into Non-Techie lingo, and help shape the FinTech roadmap; discussing key themes, regulatory issues, opportunities and challenges.

How would you like to see Jibana Culture make a difference in this space? Hashtag that!!!!
