With all the covid19 related distancing and summer break, fox boy's summer break isn't too exciting. He is seven years old and bored, and that is a great time to grow his board game knowledge! It probably hasn't been mentioned here, but I am a board game geek. Carcassonne, Settlers of Catan, various versions of Fluxx, Love Letter, Starship Catan, Cribbage, Gin Rummy, Parcheesi, Mancala, and Adventure Time's Card Wars are some of my current favorites. The classics always come in and out of rotation depending on who is around
Fox boy loves to nerd out on math. Some of the resource management games will be a bit much for him, but Cribbage seems like a good starting point
Foxe picked up this cribbage board from Scheels back when we were playing four-player games nightly. It's nothing fancy, but it has storage for the pegs, storage for the cards, skunk counters, win counters, and a decent magnetic lid. Does the job very well
Fox boy was a little frustrated his first game, but nearly beat me on his second and third games. That gave him the rush, and he has been wanting to play every day for the past few days - usually when he comes in from getting too hot while riding his bike. We have played around a dozen games so far, and he really loves trying to figure out the strategy for which cards to crib. He only thinks in terms of hands right now, but that is about what I see from most players. By the end of this summer, he will be a master at manipulating peg play 😆
We are having a lot of fun. Adventure Time is one of his favorite shows, so we took a quick look at Card Wars. You will probably be reading a post about that game in the near future! Unlike this post, I will cover more of the mechanics involved in Card Wars. Cribbage is a really old game, and there are far better resources than me from which to learn about it

Summertime Boardom - Part 2
In the midst of the most boring summer on record, are you pulling out any board games to play with the family? If so, what are your favorites?
I never even knew what cribbage was.
The rules seem kind of arbitrary at first, but the game gets a nice, easy flow to it. It's a great game for hanging out chatting with someone
I looked it up on Amazon, the board is not that expensive. I was also surprised by the variety of boards there are out there.
We are stranded here in Suriname due to COVID-19, and we have recently purchased a Dutch language Suriname version of Monopoly. It took some time to fully understand the cards, but now the whole family can play.
