During quarantine at hotel, I read books more intensively than usual. Books are my friends here together with yarn and Hive.
After I arrived at hotel, I ordered some books related famous investors that were in my wishlist on Amazon. This time I ordered paper books. Juhuuu I can read paper books in Japanese language!
I have four options when I choose a book. I always wonder which one to go for.
- Japanese + paper:
😊Easy to read, good for eyes.
😕Quite expensive when it comes to translated books. I cannot share it with my partner. Not available in Germany. It takes space. - English + paper:
😊Good price, available in Germany. I can share it with my partner and daughter (in the future). Good for eyes.
😕My reading speed gets slower ... . It takes space. - Japanese + digital
😊Good price, available in Germany. Kindle can read the book for me. No space needed.
😕Painful for eyes. Not easy to share with others. - English + digital

Overall I like paper books than digital books while it is convenient that Kindle app read digital books for me while I go for a walk.
At least I can say I least like English digital books. In Germany I compromise between English + paper and Japanese + digital. I like Japanese + paper probably the most but also happy to buy and read original book (if its available) to share with my family.
One thing I will try out is to buy an iPad and read books on it. Currently I use my iPhone 8+ for reading. It's definitely not good for my eyes.
I'm happy to read about how you read books especially if you read books in several languages for yourself and for your family and friends to share books.

😊ドイツでも購入できて、紙の本よりも安い。場所を取らない。
😕目が疲れる。他の人と共有しにくい。 - 英語＋デジタル

紙かデジタルかでいうと、やっぱり紙が好きです。でも、デジタルだとKindleに読み上げてもらえてこれはこれで便利。
上の選択肢中で一番苦手なのは「英語＋デジタル」かな。ドイツでは「英語＋紙」と「日本語＋デジタル」で妥協しています。「日本語＋紙」は高いし場所もとるけれど一番好きです。でも家族と共有できるように英語の原著を買って読むのも好きです。
少し落ち着いたらiPadを買って、iPadで本を読んでみたいです。今はiPhone 8+で読書をしていて、ここにも問題がある気がします。目には圧倒的によくありません・・・。
みなさんがどのように本を読んでいるのか知りたいです。特に、自分のため、そして家族や友人と本を共有するために、複数の言語で本を読んでいる人の話を聞いてみたいです。
