Testing my Clay

in #build-itlast year

There are a lot of instances when I do have to source my clay elsewhere. Depending on my circumstances, I have to use brands that are not known and, I get a very bad result.

Over the years, I have developed a test that would assure me that something will not break post baking- making small figures.

Small figurines because I want to know if the clay is able to hold tiny detail and is durable post baking. I would also be very interested to know how the color looks like post baking and, the best part, I do not need to spend a lot of time making a sculpture.

So here is my cat. I dunno if you guys have ever noticed but I never put whiskers on my cat. But, I don;t because, I do not have the wire to make whiskers. I refuse to make cat whiskers with anything but my special wire( put that in mind cause I have a feeling that I might cave in in the next few days!).

So here is catto. This post was supposed to be posted yesterday but because I was not able to bake it, the posting got delayed.

I started with the basic cat on a squash figurine- I am also wondering what my inspiration is but, its here!

I got my steel brush tool to do this.

And I added a tiny wire to support the head. The original head was much, much, much, much smaller but then, I struggled making the detail so I decided to make a bigger one.

Finish the details and you'll get something that looks like this. I don't also know why I put a "cover" on top of my cat's body but, anything to make things different from the rest of the world.

This is how catto looks like pre baking.

And this is catto post baking. If you can see the difference, catto acquired a more vibrant yellow color.
