New developer contest, $1,750 in prize money

We started a war, but it's much productive than the hash wars that have been in the headlines recently. The Great Byteball Bot War is a contest for developers to create Chat Bots for the Byteball platform. $1,750 in prize money is available. Note that game and entertainment Bots are welcome.

The contest runs December 12 - January 11, so if you plan on entering, act quick! Rules and requirements can be found in the announcement.

Why develop on Byteball instead of Ethereum? There are many great reasons!

Humanitarian smart contracts

In November we wrote that we were working on a project to use Byteball smart contracts with clear real-world benefits that no government fiat currency offers. The project aims to tackle fraud and mismanagement of donated funds in the charity sector.

Charity Chicken is a Byteball project in Venezuela to enable charity donations to be made directly to poor farmers. But it's much better than just the recipient simply receiving money from the donor (you can do that with most government or crypto currencies). Instead, smart contracts will lock the donated funds until a manual oracle posts that the recipient is at the farm and has picked up the chickens (after the farmer has raised them).

If this sounds a little complex, we will have diagrams soon to explain the process. We will have more details in the coming weeks. A big thanks to Malos10 and Saso from the community who are on the ground in Venezuela helping make this project a reality.

Weekly Draw improvement

Community response to our Weekly Draw has mainly been positive, but various suggestions have been made regarding the rules. In short, some people with large balances feel they don't receive enough points, whilst small holders believe their odds of winning are too low.

It is worth noting that in a real-life lottery, someone that buys 1 ticket does not have anywhere near as much chance of winning as someone that buys 1,000 tickets. Similarly, a wallet with 1GB balance should not have as much chance of winning as a wallet with 1,000GB.

Whilst this is still the case, the rules have been modified to reflect the feedback we received. The current rules can be viewed at the top of the draw statistics page. The next draw is 21.12.2018 12:00 UTC.
