New Renault 5 Review | The Ultimate Small Electric Car?

in #cars2 months ago

Ahh, the Renault 5! A ‘90’s icon in more ways than one…now it’s back, and it’s fully electric – this is the Renault 5 E-Tech.

We managed to have this on the review at the tail end of 2025, and were blown away by how well it drives – so much so that Ben wants one! It’s a blend of what made the 5 a statement car of the 1990’s and the new powertrain that aims to make the switch over to fully electric as seamlessly as possible (which is by no means an easy feat)

You've got two powertrains (a 40kW battery giving you 120hp, and a 52kW battery giving you 150hp) and four trims to choose from:

Evolution from £21,495.00 on the road
Techno+ from £23,495.00 on the road
Iconic five+ from £29,945.00 on the road
Roland Garros+ from £26,945.00 on the road

Join us as we take a closer look at what makes the new all electric Renault 5 such an exciting car.

Thank you all, and enjoy!

I am waiting for the new Smart for two.

I had the old electric one for 5 years. Best Car for a City like Berlin

Sounds like a plan, @michaelreischer - when is it expected to arrive?

No exact Date known? Sometimes in 2027

It's cool to see this car from my childhood converted to electric while preserving its original design. As you said, exciting car.
Have a great day

Could this appeal to a younger crowd? I never had a Renault, but I remember the old turbos. I think we need more options in the smaller cars and it still has a decent range. I could go for one.

We can't afford cars.

That's a really good point @steevc - I think a lot of younger people would like it without having a clue that it was a '90's classic :)

We actually spotted one of these parked up today. I think that is the first I have seen. We really need something a little bigger. One of the kids just got a BYD Seal hybrid as a courtesy car. That is nice with lots of toys, but a little big. I think something like the VW ID3 may be closer to what we want.

Hey @planetauto, here is a little bit of BEER from @steevc for you. Enjoy it!
