Hello and welcome to Write Club! We are a small workshop of fiction writers who love the craft of short story writing. Each month we write a short story from a writing prompt, and then review each other's stories and improve our work based on feedback from the other members.
This post provides an invitation to write for our prompts, as well as the prompt of the month.

This month's writing prompt
That brings us to the prompt! For the month of May 2021, Write Club members must write a story based on this prompt: where the sidewalk ends.
If the phrase sounds familiar, you may be remembering the famous Shel Silverstein children's book by that name.
What should you do with the prompt? Of course you can pay homage in some way to Silverstein. Or do what you wish.
What is at the end of the sidewalk? Is it where the safety of home ends and the dangers of the world begin? Is it the leaping off point into another universe? Or is it simply the place where young lovers meet for a secret kiss each night?
Where will your imagination take you?
Get your engines running
Start thinking about your story's conflict, who is experiencing it, and how they might seek to overcome what they are facing. The more your conscious and sub-conscious brain are working on developing your MC (main character), and defining the scenario that has brought us to the time and place of this story, the sooner your story will take shape.
You could write out some loglines - one-sentence story plots - and then choose the one that resonates the most with you. Or join our discussion on Discord and get input on which idea seems like the most promising one to move forward.

I landed back around 2/3 months ago after an extended break.
It's great to be back again. Thanks for the advise on discord. I don't tend to go on there much at all anymore though, as it tends to be too distracting on work days.
I don't spend time on any of the large servers with a lot of people. I find them too overwhelming. The two servers where I hang out have less than 10 people each. :-)
I'm the same way at parties. I'll go to one or two people I know and spend the whole time talking to them! Ha ha.
Ah very good, if i decide to download discord again, it'll be one of the first places I'll pop into. I see you are still writing away which is great. Less fiction for me these days - concentrating more on sports, cooking and music right now when time allows. I'm on a bit of a roll now, having posted every day for maybe 2 months. I'm afraid to break the habit, as I might get lazy again. I'll keep posting as long as I have something new/interesting to say.
