Chess and its great benefits for life

in #chess5 years ago

Hello steemit community, greetings to all! 👋

Chess is a game that since very young has caught me in their networks, it is really great to be able to enjoy it and I know that like me there are many who love it. This is a millenary game that is practiced in all countries, which awakens passions and becomes the protagonist of majestic and great championships worldwide, but have you heard about the benefits that chess brings?

Well, I want to start telling you that this game has great advantages in all ages because it has excellent characteristics to promote the development of mental skills, in addition to the formation of scientific thinking. That is why it is known as sport and / or science game, because those who practice it are constantly subjected to a number of tests that generate hypotheses that must be verified, thus promoting the intellectual and recreational aspects, helping at the same time to facilitate socialization and respect for the rules and regulations among its players. So much so that since 1995, UNESCO has widely recommended the incorporation of chess into the curricula at the primary and secondary levels.

Making a parenthesis, going back a few years, I remember that when starting a practice, the coach told us that it was not enough to learn an opening or defense, it was necessary to analyze and study the position to later develop a plan, a strategy, calculate, create problems and find a solution. With this I can only say that to play chess you only need to possess a bit of cognitive ability, which as you practice constantly, will be fine-tuned to allow fascinating changes in our brain abilities, our way of perceiving and to interact with reality.

Is not it interesting? Imagine now that this is just a preview of what your great contributions are next:

In the first place, chess favors attention, concentration and memory, teaching people to observe very carefully and attentively without losing the focus of the environment. From there it develops as I mentioned above the abstract thinking, because you should imagine possible situations, sequences and reactions for decision making. There must be an effort to plan their behavior and actions, to encourage patience, reflection and to assume their options or decisions.

It should be noted that strategy games are an extraordinary way to develop the prefrontal cortex, an area that is responsible for planning and anticipating events, not only self-control but also good judgment; so it is involved in making decisions in any area of

life. Then we have to increase the power of analysis, synthesis and organization, all these tools are enhanced when a game of strategies such as chess is mastered.

When the cognitive field is developed, brain capacity is involved, this helps to process, store, manipulate and recover the information that in turn allows the individual to develop an adequate response to the experiences presented to them, being the basis for the development of knowledge, developing responses to different situations that arise in day to day and achieve effective communication with the environment, in short, which allows the human being to develop in all areas of life.

All this leads to raise the IQ, helping people to make more precise and faster decisions at times when they are under pressure, increasing their ability to respond in solving problems, creating socio-affective skills how the acceptance of norms, the result of a game, and the formation of character, which is accompanied by: organization, emotional control, reasoned expression, sense of responsibility and self-esteem.

And it is that the decision-making at the moment of solving chess problems is very important, speeding up the speed of thought and encouraging logical-mathematical rationing.

In addition, one of its most interesting and scientifically proven data is that it exercises both cerebral hemispheres. On the one hand it is necessary to use the left hemisphere to recognize the objects, that is, pieces and on the other hand the right hemisphere is needed, which helps to recognize the patterns or plays to be made. Experts in the field of psychology and neurobiology say that there are many areas of the brain that are activated when we play a game of chess and that this practice helps considerably to create a connection between the neurons as they learn little by little the different rules and tactics to use, collaborating in the creation and growth of dendrites, because dendrites are structures of neurons that are involved in the perception of stimuli.

From there, they derive a series of clinical benefits in degenerative pathologies, such as the prevention of Alzheimer's disease, combat schizophrenia, serve as therapy and rehabilitation for patients who have suffered a cerebrovascular attack and even for people with autism or disabilities, decreases the risk of suffering from dementia, avoids depression and anxiety.

Finally, on a personal level, it helps to maintain emotional control, giving stability between what could be successes or frustrations, creating a sense of transparency to be honest and integrated with oneself and with others, generates a sense of responsibility when having full awareness that every movement on the board is a decision for good or for bad, where there is no going back (as it happens in life), resilience or adaptability and empathy to understand multiple and unexpected situations.

Indeed, as we can see, chess contributes systematically, is able to contribute sensibly. Enhancing the skill of this sport at an early age would progressively help the development of skills and abilities that lie hidden in the brain. His knowledge and practice reveals to us, from his simplicity, complex interrelations that we also find in the world in which we live, where so much in the social, the psychological and the philosophical there is an interdependence.

And you? What to expect to immerse yourself in this adventure called chess?

I hope you like them and serve them as an incentive to promote this sport, even with the children of the house and for yourselves, I assure you that once you have started this adventure you will never want to abandon your journey.
