The World's Choice

Mathew 27:15-21
15 Now at that feast the governor was wont to release unto the people a prisoner, whom they would. 16 And they had then a notable prisoner, called Barabbas. 17 Therefore when they were gathered together, Pilate said unto them, Whom will ye that I release unto you? Barabbas, or Jesus which is called Christ? 18 For he knew that for envy they had delivered him. 19 When he was set down on the judgment seat, his wife sent unto him, saying, Have thou nothing to do with that just man: for I have suffered many things this day in a dream because of him. 20 But the chief priests and elders persuaded the multitude that they should ask Barabbas, and destroy Jesus. 21 The governor answered and said unto them, Whether of the twain will ye that I release unto you? They said, Barabbas.

This passage describes the latter events leading to the crucifixion of Christ. How the people chose a renowned and dangerous thief over an innocent Jesus who did absolutely nothing except preach the truth and the Kingdom of God. And while I was reading this, I began to think on the life of the Christian too in our World of today. Many Christian people still struggle to gain the acceptance of the World. To be loved and accepted by the World but unknown to them that is something that will never happen unless you compromise your faith. As long as we remain devout followers of Christ, we will never be accepted by the World.

Simply put, the World will never chose you over darkness. Authority has been given to the prince of darkness over the World for a short time and as long as we are in it, we will suffer rejection, persecution and hard times. The darkness will always hate the light and as children of the light, don't expect to be accepted by the children of darkness. Take the example in our passage for today of Jesus(good/light) and Barabbas(evil/darkness). The people(World) had the choice to pick one of them and grant him freedom and look who the World picked? You got it, they went straight ahead to pick their brother and the one who shares their traits and genes.

Dear believers, we must be in the World but not of it. For to love the World is enmity with God, so scripture says. Jesus Christ also told his disciples that the World will hate them, persecute them and even kill them just like they did to him. We are also encouraged to count it all joy when we go through diverse temptations, persecution and suffering for his namesake. This is our ministry and what we are called to do. The Christian life is not supposed to be a picnic or an easy life void of problems or troubles. Rather, it is a tough road, stained with blood, tears and agony. Very few make it on that road and to be among the few, we must learn to endure to the end.

We must know that our ultimate goal is not to get the World to accept us but the acceptance of Christ is what is more important. If the World rejects you and Christ accepts you, you have won the victory. Christ knows the journey will not be easy in this evil World and has sent a helper, a comforter, a friend, someone to give us direction. Without him, we will fail and be lost for sure. He is the "Holy Spirit." Every Christian must draw closer and closer to the spirit in these dark times. Listen to him and heed to his instructions. The days will only grow darker as the time of his second coming draws nigh. May God keep us in his love and may his spirit guide us till the end. Grace and peace be unto you.

               Shalom!!!
