Merry Christmas!

in #christmas3 years ago

December 25th, Christmas. The date chosen hundreds of years ago by the Catholic church to celebrate the birth of the Savior and Redeemer of mankind. A time to celebrate life, salvation, mercy, and hope, regardless of the pagan solstice holidays it supplanted and the probable summer date of His birth a few years before AD 1.

This year, the news includes reports of a car bombing in Nashville, continued arguments over election results, and heated debates over the proper role of government in response to a pandemic in addition to the usual complaints of a "war on Christmas."

Remember, the Prince of Peace would not have you celebrate the State. Our kingdom is not of this world. Don't support the murder, theft, and destruction wrought by governments. No matter the rhetoric of politicians, it bears none of the fruits of the spirit. Politics is an attempt to place men on the throne of God as supreme lawmakers and arbiters of right and wrong.

Since a man cannot serve two masters, now is the perfect time to re-examine who you will serve. We have seen the hollowness of the State. Instead of demanding more legislation and law enforcement, love your neighbor and speak out against senseless persecutions and prosecutions. Instead of begging government for welfare and handouts funded by theft, be charitable yourself. Instead of lashing out in violence, seek ways to avoid conflict and make peace.

We live in a fallen world, and people are capable of incredible evil, but today is a day of hope. Don't forget it, whether you are religiously-inclined or not.
