STAR WARS: THE BAD BATCH : Animated Series
Summary
In the aftermath of the Clone Wars, a group of elite clone troopers (*Called "Clone Force 99"), make their way through the ever-changing galaxy. They're often called "The Bad Batch" - both in relation to their own behavior and because they are clones from batches of other clones that are not identical.
The first episode was released on May 4 ( May 4th be with you).
This series is still relatively new with only two episodes currently released at the time of writing the summary.
The first episode is about 1:14:00 minutes while the second one falls into the standard 21:00 minute format.
If you are a fan of the clone wars series of animated Star Wars, I think you be very impressed with this new story arc. As mentioned above it takes place right after the clone wars when order 66 was given.
The show starts out as you would expect a clone wars episode to go, but then takes a quick turn. I don't want talk too much about the overall story as I would like you discover that on your own. For this overview will talk more about general parts of the story and the characters.
The Art Style
The art style in this animation is again on par with the clone wars if not slightly pushed further. This would be gritty but still a playful animated style that is a bit blocky. When I first watched the clone wars I was not in love with the style but over time I really grew to appreciate the artistic merit of it. The simple shapes of characters and objects allows you to focus more and what important, then every now and again detailed shapes emerge, paired with detailed backgrounds, creates quite the immerse experience for the viewer.
The Story Arc
As per the story goes, it sets up early the team of characters each have the unique personalities.
Hunter : The tattooed face leader who is leads the team with strong morals lean towards the good side. He is also the most conventional looking out of all the bad batch, one for his face tattoo he could look like any other standard clone.
Wrecker : The large tank of the bunch who has a playful personality wrong punch. He seems also to have an affinity with the toy that I think later story arc might develop from.
Tech : Where there is Braun there is also brains. he is the opposite of Wrecker, and has little strength but high intelligence that he uses to solve problems and hacks computers for the team.
Crosshair : Perhaps the most evil of the bunch but misunderstood, he is the sniper who takes the shots from a distance and moved quick.
Echo : He was not initially a member of the team but part of another group called "Domino Squad". If memory serves me correctly there is an episode of clone wars that features his birth if you would.
Since beginning this new series a larger story arc is beginning to develop. I suspect will see different episodes where we will dive into each of the different characters past, as well as the appearances from some favorite characters such as Rex's from previous Star Wars the clone wars episodes.
Overall Review
While this is an animated series that is aimed at a younger audience, the story arc and character development is still fantastic, and some undertones and situations have style an older audience may appreciate.
In addition, if you are a fan of the animated clone wars series, you most definitely want to check this one out as well!
For myself I am excited to see where this series goes over the next few months as the episodes are released. I do recommend it to anyone who likes Star Wars!
