Thanks to this idea that I had, I recently saw a movie called Honey Boy, which was the best introduction I could have had to return to auteur cinema; something that feels too real, a movie that doesn't leave you empty or full, but simply shows you a small piece of reality that the industry often tends to hide
Entre tantas películas que han pasado desapercibidas durante estos últimos años, quise ver una que otra película “indie” no tan indie, para saber qué es lo que me he perdido del cine de autor y así alejarme de las grandes producciones para ver si de esta manera me puedo acercar más a los directores, productores, actores o escritores de las obras que tanto disfruto ver. Gracias a este idea que tuve, vi hace poco una película llamada Honey Boy, que fue la mejor introducción que pude haber tenido para volver al cine de autor; algo que se siente demasiado real, una película que no te deja vacío ni lleno, sino que simplemente te muestra un pequeño pedazo de realidad que muchas veces la industria tiende a ocultar.
Honey Boy is a film written by Shia Labeouf, based on his childhood and his relationship with his father. With a scrip debut that he wrote as part of his rehabilitation, and a direction acclaimed for being raw and realistic, without being over the top in terms of what is shown. The direction of the film complements the script, which jumps back in time between a young Shia (who has another name in the film) and his relationship with his father, to a more adult Shia in rehabilitation.

Con un debut de guion que escribió como parte de su rehabilitación, y una dirección aclamada por ser cruda y realista, sin llegar a ser exagerada en cuanto a lo que se muestra. I have to give a warning, and that is that it is a performance film. I do not remember the last time I saw a child act as good as the protagonist of Honey Boy does, and also, his older version with his father (who is played by Shia Labeouf himself) does it in a way too convincing, until it makes us uncomfortable to see some scenes, even more so knowing that it is the childhood of an actor that is talked about in the film. All this makes the film more than entertaining or fun, it is a letter from the author to the audience, almost like watching a diary made into a movie, a diary that does not mince words in showing the protagonist's pain, which is transmitted to us from the most real way possible.
Una advertencia tengo que dar, y es que es una película de actuaciones. No recuerdo la última vez que vi a un niño actuar de una forma tan buena como lo hace el protagonista de Honey Boy, y, además, su versión mayor junto a su padre (que es interpretado por el mismo Shia Labeouf) lo hacen de una forma demasiado convincente, hasta que se nos hace incomodo ver algunas escenas, más aun sabiendo que es la infancia de un actor de la cual se habla en la película. Todo esto hace que la película más que entretenida o divertida, sea una carta del autor para la audiencia, casi como ver un diario hecho película, un diario que no tiene pelos en la lengua en demostrar el dolor del protagonista, que se nos trasmite de la forma más real posible.
