The Black Phone, is a horror/thriller film starring Ethan Hawke as (The Grabber), a mystery man abducting and killing children. Directed by Scott Derrickson the film is inspired by his childhood experiences as well a true short story. Although the centre of attraction of the whole movie are some teenagers, the background giving away vibe of Stranger Things in the starting but its not a sci-fi.
The story revolves around a small town that was witnessing missing of tennage boys and didn't have any clue about what's going on. But police found black balloons from the site of abduction. While the town was in shock, Mason Thames (Finney Shaw) joins the league of missing child and abducted by the grabber in a basement.
Till now the story looked like a typical psychology/Crime Drama. But then comes the real twist with the black phone, a Telephone which was available in the basement of the grabber and according to him it was not working. Finney was losing his hope for survival but then something unexpected happened. The Black Phone rings, finney shockingly pics it up and answers the call, to his surprise it was one a the missing child. He converse with all the missing children one by one who helped him survive and escape from the abduction.
While Finney's sister who is another main highlight of the movie, has a super ability to see things in her dreams and see tries very hard to find her brother. With a run time of around 100 minutes this film is simply to the line, with interesting plot and thrilling performances by the cast. This is an excellent combination of crime, horror, and psychological thriller. The Marsk and make up of the Ethen Hawke really gave him a look like Joker Look and he did the job of the Grabber perfectly. I hope you will find this one interesting too.
