Hello everybody! Long time no see!

I am so sorry that lately, I couldn't find the time to write more about my past travels taking you on a virtual journey with me.

Maybe in the next month, I share with you my experience traveling through Bolivia with my dear friend Britta!

Talking about her I want to tell you about her project she is planing on, and ask for your support in this case, as I know you guys are awesome on this!

I really do very, very rarely post something, but that's very important to her. So I decided to help out.

She has a hiking group, where she lives in Cape Town and managed with them, that they will take a hike to create awareness for the topic of breast cancer on the 10th of April.

They will climb the mountain together with almost 50 women, dressed up and wrapped in pink and glitter 👙. They will have photographers with them, and they were even able to get a marketing company on board, who then organize a few social media posts for them 📸

But what is much more important: They want to support the so-called Flamingo Project in Cape Town and provide funds for women who cannot afford examination or treatment 😞 Their goal is R100,000 - that's just about EUR 6,000. With this they could finance vital surgery for 25 women.

You can find all the details here:

Flamingo Project Cape Town - Save a woman's life for the price of a lipstick

A lipstick to save a life

Would you save a woman’s life for the price of a lipstick?

An estimated 1 000 000 women live with breast cancer in South Africa. Together these women can fill up Cape Town Stadium… about 20 times! Approximately half of these ladies don’t make it to see their children take their first step, their friends get married, or their parents retire, as the public healthcare system is overburdened and the average waiting time for surgery exceeds 14 weeks (yes, you read it right… that’s more than 3 months!)

Groote Schuur Hospital Breast Clinic (Cape Town’s largest public breast cancer facility) operates on Friday mornings only due to lack of funds. Only the first 80-100 patients for the week are lucky enough to see a doctor. The rest have to wait for another week… or 14….

This is what motivated Dr. Liana Roodt to start Project Flamingo. Inspired by the deeply moving story of lipsticks being distributed to liberated women at the end of World War II, for whom such a simple comfort allowed them to reclaim their humanity and sense of self, Liana and a group of like-minded people came up with the simple, yet profoundly effective ideas of “catch-up surgeries” and “pamper packs”.

Since 2010 Project Flamingo has provided funds for a specialist surgeon to spend 4 hours every week at the clinic and perform “catch-up surgeries” – operations that the South African public healthcare system simply can’t afford to pay for. Approximately 20 to 25 ladies are seen and operated on weekly by this specialist. As insignificant as this number may seem, it has saved the lives of over 14,000 mothers, daughters and sisters since the project was launched.

Project Flamingo needs our help to keep up this amazing work and this is what hip hiking group, The Wanderers, is set out to achieve! Started by Florence Poretti in August 2020, The Wanderers has quickly risen in popularity amassing huge membership and Facebook following. On 10 April 2021 some fifty female Wanderers will climb up the Cape mountains in the cold early morning hours, baring it all, to raise awareness and funds for this beautiful cause.

You Can Help Too!

You don’t have to be in Cape Town (or a hiker!) to help these brave ladies achieve their goal! You can assist right from the comfort of your couch! Click on the Donate Now button and fund for the price of a lipstick (R200)! A donation of R4,000 would fund one woman’s surgery, while R20,000 could pay for an entire day of surgery and save 25 women’s lives!

Follow the ladies’ journey on their Facebook page, open your heart and help a mother see her baby’s first day at school, a daughter celebrate her graduation and a sister live another day. Together we can make a difference… for the price of a lipstick!

Donate to this charity!

On the page itself, you can see how much was already donated and by whom!

Of course, I will also donate all the HBD that this post gets for this cause and make a proof post for you to be sure, that it arrived. (in case you prefer liking this post instead of donating some of your "real money")

I am sure I can also get some of the material, that the agency will create on the hike (10.4.) supporting this topic to share it with you! Or even catch some of the outcomes in the end!

I can only tell you, that I know Britta for almost 9 years now, and she is absolutely trustful about this! So If you want to make the world a little bit nicer, show some love for her!

Of course, that also motivates me to share with you some of my adventures with Britta in Bolivia soon!

I say thanks in advance to all of you and happy Easter! <3

Cheers,
Liz

Thanks my dear friend! <3

It's my pleasure Liz

I'm glad you'll be writing soonest, I know a few South African women back in the days and they talked about medicals issues too relating to breast cancer, it's so good to see you rasing the sweetness and helping Britta your friend, I know what it feels to not be able to afford money for a medical condition. I have tipued the post as well. Hopefully will love to read the travel blogs soon.

Yes, it is a real issue there! I am happy to help always, you know that! Thanks for your support on this @josediccus! Every vote counts <3
