With plenty of spare time I listened to an online interview with an independent immunologist (professor Pierre Capel ) .
He covered many topics of which I name two:
Why really fat people are at such high risk dying of corona.
He explained that the virus apart from nestling in the respiratory system also feels very good at home in fat. As you know fat is white because there are no bloodvessels going through fat hence the immune system is not able to reach the virus in fat. Immune systems transport T-cells to the battle via the blood.
While the virus is attacked in the longs (at a high costs of long cells that are encapsuled ) the virus in the fat continues to make billions of new virus cells. In the end the body (T-cells) is not capable of winning this battle.
Why a vaccin will not be made nor be succesfull.
Now this striked me really as he says it is simple. Unlike measles the coronavirusses including Covid19 mutate pretty quickly. The virus cells exchange small parts of DNA and a vaccin - if any - will only attack a few types and will be powerless to some of the new types. All similar to influenza but sadly with covid far more new types. A safe vaccin itself will also not arrive any time soon as it is so complex to make one. He referred to the amount of money spent of HIV vaccins without any good vaccin. Stop it he said. We live with hundreds of virusses already for millions of years.
Is there no hope ?
Sure there is.
The latest insights are
Aged 0 to 20 The virus cells that enter the nose are already killed within tenths of seconds due to the first stage immune reaction. They do not get sick, have no antibodies and do not pass anything to other people.
Aged 20 to 70 The immune systems are still good but not as perfect as before. Some will be a few weeks really sick but death rate is close to 0% here if you have no underlying other problems such as obese and diabetes naming the most important ones.
Aged above 70 The immune system deteriorates further and other sickness and organ age make that the death rate goes up with this age to 3% or higher. So far most recover. Again those with other issues have the highest death rates (> 30%) now also for instance people who were recently treated for cancer.
He did have his thoughts about the Gates foundation, the use of face masks and hand cleaner stuff but did not want to talk about these as it would harm the rest of his story.
